Description Canon Digital Rebel XSi
18-55mm kit lens

A bolt of lightning crawls across the sky as a storm passes just to the southeast. I really wish the shot could have been composed more to the left, but my neighbor's house/tree were in the way. I was sure lucky these bolts crawled into frame

This is really cool. How did you take this? Was it luck? or a lot of pictures until you got one?

FramedByNature In reply to Taburn [2009-06-19 16:42:11 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
I used a 30 second shutter, so all I really had to do was wait for the lightning

I think its pretty cool you got the shot at all really.

I don't think we get lightening like that here in NZ. Its usually just a flash of light.

Yeah, typically it's just cloud-to-ground stuff. The cloud-to-cloud is my favorite kind though

very nice colors, it is a shame you have obstacles to avoid though, you could open up a lot of possibilities without them.

Man, that's got me itchin' for some high-speed footage of lightning (have you seen any yourself? It's quite amazing)

High speed lightning footage? Sounds awesome. I recently found video of a guy that trapped lightning in a block: [link]
