Description On a dry lake bed, 66 million years ago in what would eventually become the Ferris Formation of southern Wyoming, a lone Tyrannosaurus rex stalks an Edmontonia (Denversaurus) schlessmani. Storm clouds above signal the break of the dry season and the returning rains will wash away the bones and branches that accumulated in the interim. The final days of the Cretaceous are not far off and these two dinosaurs represent some of the last of their linneages. This is based on a terrific mount in the Houston Museum of Natural and Science. Thanks for taking a moment to look as always!

Interesting perspective on the tyrant. The Edmontonia/Denversaurus looks pretty fucked despite its being armored.

Yeah. I don't think those osteoderms would be particularly helpful in saving a life.

I like this a lot, but I think there might be something off with the perspective on the T.rex.

Oh it's a normal T. rex, but the way it's hunched down to maul the squat little ankylosaur makes it look truly bizarre from this angle.

QueenSerenity2012 In reply to Franz-Josef73 [2014-10-06 20:18:12 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that'd explain it then. I was picturing a Sue-like Tyrannosaurus with an unusually broad body and short legs.

Thanks. I was surprised by how it came out too, but that's how the mounted skeleton actually comes out from this perspective. Not as "leggy" as most reconstructions.

I don't think I've ever seen the mount myself, but that wouldn't surprise me. The shorter legged Tyrannosaurs probably looked pretty weird.
