Those huge paws are so cute! Can't wait to see him soft mounted. LS mounts are best for viewing, but for cuddling up with like a teddy bear, I want them floppy and squishy! I think many people like the ones with a wire framework, of sorts, so that they can pose them for pictures. Best of luck!

Thank you very much! Its funny because were watching each other on my taxi account! XD
Right now I'm still trying to decide if I want to add an armature to him or not, becasue the problem I had with my last soft mount was they body just didn't look right plushed. Her head looked fine, even for being a first, but I never got over her body. Plus I don't really know what would right for the framework, but then again this fox is much fluffier too lol!

When I did my first soft mount (Tanuki) her body just looked like a plump 'sausage'. When I did Silver, I paid more attention towards giving him more realistic body contours-he has hip and shoulder definition. Could that be the problem? I also ended up putting wire only in Silver's legs (not in his body and neck). His legs just looked too much like 'noodles' without them. Ellie (Frontier Furs) did a tutorial on the method, and I copied her this with satisfactory results. As far as a fully poseable frame work goes, there are other examples here on DA. Who are you? BTW

Yes that is exactly the problem I had! Oooow how did you go about giving him body contours? I saw Ellie's tutorial a while back and I'm thinking about doing something simulat, only fixing up the joints because she didnt do it right, there suppost to have three not two. Thanks for the tips!
I messaged you what my other account was on that account c:

Sorry I took so long to answer your question! The first pic here is of a wallhanger fox that has been case skinned (ventral view). The little red pencil sharpener is approximately where the anus used to be. the gold round circle is right on top of the scrotum. When I first began sewing up the groin area (on my first soft mounts), I would bring the anal area UP TO the scrotum area, then I'd stitch up Mr. Fox in one basically continuous, horizontal line across the flank/inner hip area and on up the back of the hind legs. . In the second pic, I'm using the white batting to show where this seam lay. This led to not much definition in the hip area and what is called a 'butt tail'. This means that instead of the tail originating (correctly) from the base the base of the spine, it looks as if the poor critter is 'pooping' it out of it's butt! After some trial and error, I've since learned to sew 'up' from the anus about 2" in a vertical direction. Then I do my big horizontal seam up the back of the legs and across the belly/groin/flank area. Here is Silver's groin with the white batting once again showing where the seams lie. This last pic shows the above in a line drawing format The yellow shaded area represents the interior skin in illustration #1. Illustration #2 is how I used to sew up the casing incision. Illustration #3 shows how I do it now. You may be wondering how long to make the first vertical seam that connects the anus to the long horizontal seam. I just sew an inch at a time. I then 'pinch' close the scrotum and anal area together. You will start to see natural looking hip/flank contours emerging. I'll usually pop in some safety pins at this point. If it looks good, sew that baby up! If not, take out your safety pins and keep sewing, OR, if the seam is too long, get out your seam ripper and shorten it. It helps a WHOLE LOT if you have a completed soft mount right in front of you to use as a 3-D guide. Hope this helps!

Oh my goodness-I'm just starting on a soft mount cross fox myself! Each time you mount, you'll find that things come a little easier-you get better, in another words! For the longest time, I couldn't understand why everyone else's fox had 'pouffy' cheeks while mind did not! I finally figured out that what I thought was 'throat latch' fur was actually 'cheek pouf' fur that got pulled out of proportion during the drying phase of the tanning process. When they hang up a wet, freshly tanned pelt for its final drying out, the wet fur weighs a ton! By the time the fur dries, the sheer weight of all that wet fur has stretched out the entire pelt, making the whole thing too long and skinny. It distorts the face a little bit too. The first time I mounted a freshly tanned pelt I was blown away by how s-t-r-e-t-c-h-y it got after rehydration and how easy it was to coax it back into more natural contours. AS far as 'cheek pouffs' go (sorry, I got off-track there) I also began putting a little extra clay in that area for even more 'pouf'. I over-did it a little with Silver though! Good luck and do keep me updated on your progress-I love WIP pics!

This is really hard to explain! I carefully studied the ventral view of well made soft mounts as well as LS pelts on hide and fur. I realized I had been sewing up the groin area incorrectly, especially the the first 1" to 2" that 'connects' the anal area to the lower abdominal region right between the hind legs. Gosh! I am going to get a couple pics for you using my cross fox pelt and finished soft mount as reference. Describing it in words is like trying to describe a dance 'move' to someone as opposed to just being able to show them! This might take a day or two. As far as wire in the legs go, I just put straight wires in the front legs, not creating any joint at all. Endless Masquerade has examples of her VERY complicated internal skeleton in her gallery. BUT she now has an external website, so she may of closed her DA account. If you want an example of a more simplistic wire frame work, Braveheart Taxidermy and Roki Ziro have picture of theirs in their Gallery. If memory serves, I simply googled something along the lines of 'pictures of wire framework for soft taxidermy mounts' and surprisingly got some hits. I had, at one time, pics of these in my 'favorites', and I'll see if I can link you.
