Go ahead and give the 1st season a try, it's a nice start before it becomes more juicy in Season 2. Darth Vader is my 1st spoiler, the 2nd spoiler is from the old Clone Wars a character that managed to survive the war.

Yes, Rebels is between Episode 3 & 4, the rebellion does not start with our original founders, but other rebel groups. They did say 10 years after Episode 3.
All I can say is Codename : Fulcrum, from Clone Wars, not to be confused with Episode 3. Clone Wars is way before Episode 3 happened. So the character is from Clone Wars.
