Description "The great and glorious angel is Michael, who has power over this people and governs them, he put the Law into the hearts of those who believe"
-Hermas Parable 8.3

An archangel and the Great Prince in charge of the seventh heaven, Michael served as prince or guardian over the destinies of the nations of Israel (Dan 10: 21; 12:1). The Book of Revelation speaks of this warrior priest and his heavenly host of angels (Rev. 12:7) as struggling with "the ancient serpent, the Devil and Satan" when the devil's malevolent character rebelled against God at the inception of time. In addition to these, Michael is credited for anointing the prophet Enoch and transforming his mortal being into an angelic form.
In order to best represent the magnanimity of this strong religious figure, I adopted a more anthropomorphic outlook. In other words, I utilized the practice of ascribing an essentially immaterial entity with humanoid features. The dark halo and eyelids, the Byzantine cross on the breast, the resplendent white locks, fair complexion and blue veinery nearly resemble an Art Nouveau warrior.

He looks so ominous and incorporeal looking. Surely this is in his likeness.

Hi, it's Vince (TOAE)

So this is your version of Michael.
according the one psychic he does have a tendency to go topless to scare his enemies (demons) away.

Hello Vince Thank you for coming to visit my booth at TOAE. I truly enjoyed our conversation on the subject of angels and angelic lore. Vitruvian Michael was an experiment of sorts, representing Michael as the ideal vision of man according to the Roman architect Vitruvius. The tattooing was a purely decorative aesthetic, combining various Christian symbols present in the Gospels. Perhaps Vitruvian Michael is one of many forms that the archangel might take. He is, afterall, known to manifest himself as human on occasion.

Interesting.
Most of Angelic lore characterise St. Mike as a jock.

My own idea was based on the 5 man band. Michael is "The Hero" of the group, and I kept switching between stock hero (One who can't have as interesting a personality as the others, in order to hold them together) or the Dynamic Hero (One who's all of them combined)

So here's the rest of my group idea

Azrael- The lancer (Supposed to have a personality that's a foil for the hero)

Uriel- The strong guy.

Iophiel- The action girl

Cassiel- The Heart of the group.

HA! Sadly true . Although I am generally modest about the quality of my artwork, I was genuinely proud of this piece. Another version of it is in the works (and will possibly entail digital accents!). Many have admired Archangel Michael as of recently, judging by the updates on its favourites collections.

Oh you know it. I'll probe deep into pre-War of the Ring history to write that one. I'll keep you posted on its progress!

Oh Alex, I'm completely bashful. Although, I can easily contend that your artwork is finer in its execution than my simple renderings . As for the descriptions, research drives every project that I take on. Therefore, the process of art becomes a marriage of both craftmanship and intellect. Thank you for the comment!!

Well, I can only anticipate the degree of research I'll get to read when you paint a Balrog.
