Description THERE IS A NEW VERSION OF THIS TUTORIAL-
fritchie.deviantart.com/art/Pa…
Its an interactive flash piece vs a scrolling JPEG. Way better.

YOU NEED:
Photoshop
Knowledge of Photoshop's interface/menus

-
You do not need to be an advanced Photoshop user to be able to complete this tutorial on your own.

ENJOY!
I was shown how to make wood grain by someone older and wiser than me, with the support to pass the knowledge on to others. So this is for everyone so that maybe making wood grain will not be as intimidating of a task!

I hope the tutorial makes sense, I did some testing with another designer to see if she understood it. She was able to make it with no problems or questions, but please feel free to ask me anything you need to know!

Please DO NOT redistribute this tutorial ANYWHERE without my permission! You may feature this on dA, just make sure to let me know Note me for questions, etc.

I've come to realize that I'm too much of a control freak to use stock photo woodgrain (not to mention most of the good ones are pay only, agh!), so a simple, easily customized tutorial like this is a life-saver. Thank you so much!

Thank you for the kind words! I totally agree, I used to spend more time looking for the exact thing I wanted, only to find that making it felt more rewarding and took less time.

I just redid this tutorial, it has a more interactive design to it, I seem to like the lay of the information better in the udated version. Here ya go if you are interested:
