Thanks again. By this WIP photo I found a way how to craft such detailed wings.
I had an idea for some time of a figure set based on a drawing, and before I saw this, I had no principle idea how to craft it without wings simplification.

There is a full tutorial in my gallery that explains every step I used for doing the wings, if that helps

Fantastic process. How did you get the idea to construct the wings this way?

My modelling and sculpting background is in miniatures and scale figures. I have been taking inspiration from some of the best miniature companys out there like Scibor miniatures, Studio Mcvey and Kingdom Death.

Because I'm used to working in such a small scale I strive to get as much detail into my sculpts as possible and the MLP style pegasus wings didn't look right on this piece.

Also a lot of trial and error was involved, mostly error. I think I went through 3 or 4 itterations before I found this one.

Well it looks like all your research and hard work paid off. Those wings are very well made, great job.

Look forward to seeing more work, and I love the way you document your progress.

How did you connect the finished wings to the body?

frozenpyro71 In reply to Snetri [2012-04-10 20:27:54 +0000 UTC]

At this stage of the sculpt they were stuck on with sticky tack. Further on the wings were pinned to the body by drilling a hole in a thick section of the wing and the body then using a length of paperclip to strengthen the joint.

Thanks! I figured you had to have something in between to support the joint.

What are you using to make the wings in this pic? Whats that white frame material there?

The wings are sculpted from a 50/50 mix of Milliput and Green Stuff, the white material is called plasticard. Its basicly thin sheets of semiflexable plastic, easily cut with a craft knife and bent into shape.

Oh well where can I get some of that plasticard?

I get mine in bulk from ebay but you might also find it in arts and craft shops or model railway stores. It comes in lots of thicknesses and styles. Try evergreen plastics on ebay.
