Description Scales tutorial. I don't think it was posted in the magazine due to the idioticness of my computer losing files and me not contacting that nice lady

So here it is. It's quite old... so... yeah, the art... ugh.

I might do a remake, a MUCH better remake if anyone can't understand this.

Also, if there's anything that you've SEEN me do in art that you'd like to know how I do, post it in a comment here, and I'll add it to my list in my journal so I don't forget and I'll get to it eventually. If it's something I learned in a tutorial, I'll probably just reply with the link to the tutorial.

FYI, this is also a bit of a "Tablets are great! Here's what you can do with them that's different than the mouse" kinda plug. So ignore the advertisement like atmosphere of the tutorial...

I love this tutorial and have been working on a lineart coloring that I want to use it on. The only problem is that when I go to paint/draw the scale shapes, the outlines arent smooth like yours are. They are all pixely and I was wondering what brush you used or if you had a certain preset to make the scales have less pixely edges.
Thanks

Is it possible that you're working at a smaller resolution, or with a smaller canvas? It also depends on what program you're using, I think...

yes i was using a smaller canvas, im not sure about the resolution though. The image turned out fine though I think.

Thank you for creating such a useful tutorial ^-^

In the last step you said to change the blend mode of hightlights to "Color Dodge", but you didn't say in none of the previous steps to select blend mode of highlights. When did that suppose to happen?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ftepainting In reply to magikwolf [2007-05-02 21:22:32 +0000 UTC]

The Blending mode for the layers is located above the Layers in the Layers window. The default setting is always Normal, just click on the pull down menu and select "Color Dodge" from the list.

magikwolf In reply to ftepainting [2007-05-02 22:00:56 +0000 UTC]

I know how to select a blend mode, what I was asking is does the blend mode stay as normal until the step where it saids to change it to "color dodge"????

ftepainting In reply to magikwolf [2007-05-02 22:23:09 +0000 UTC]

yes, you're working with it in normal until that point.

yeah... it is time consuming, but it makes a nice picture in the end.

I shall try, this week is pretty hectic, so it'll probably have to wait a while.

Hair? Hmmm.... That's interesting. I've had a couple friends in my art class ask how I did hair. I think I'll try to make a tutorial on that.
