Description Loki, a 10 month old Bengal kitten, spots another cat. To make himself look bigger he fluffs up his tail, back fur and arches his back. He also walks with his back legs slightly to one side of his front legs and his tail to one side.

You may use this as stock or reference but please give credit if you do.

You can see what he looks like in profile more normally in this photo from a couple of months ago:

He's absolutely gorgeous, I have a half-bengal girl, she's 18 months old now, still a handful!Β

Love the shot of him in his offensive mode, I love it when cats fluff up and this is a great shot!

With my previous two cats and also with Theo it doesn't happen regularly enough for me to have got a good photo of it (when it happened their tail has usually deflated by the time I've grabbed the camera), but Loki's pretty reliable about it when he's out for a walk and spots another cat .

I'm curious , How fast is your Bengal growing ?

My Spock a White Mink Spotted Bengal is just 9.5 pounds at 15 month he is growing slowly now , he is slender and more agile . Leonard a Brown Spotted tabby Bengal is 12 pounds at 12 month and keeps on growing fast . He's Big-boned, muscular body . According to the breeder they continue to grow until 2 years old then they gain a little bit of weight until 3 .

Loki was a big boy early on - the breeder commented on his size when I collected him aged 3 months. He put on weight fairly consistently until it reached around 12 pounds at maybe 8-9 months (he was 11 pounds at around 7 months, 9 pounds at 5 months). His weight has been stable at that now for 2-3 months - I have been wondering if he'd start putting on weight again . He's very muscular and dense, but doesn't look especially large compared to the other neighbourhood cats we meet on walks (in fact a couple are larger than him). His dad's weight settled eventually at 15 pounds (although of course his dad is a stud, so un-neutered)..

I think skeletal growth will stop at a certain point and then they tend to fill out for a few months after that (Loki's still fairly narrow in build so I guess he'll start to bulk out in a few months time if he follows that pattern).

My other cat, an Abyssinian of the same age, has followed a similar pattern although he's smaller in build and slender and has always been about 2 pounds lighter than Loki. His weight seemed to stop gaining at around the same time and he's settled at 9.5 pounds at the moment, although he's developed a little bit of a belly so I've had to stop leaving dry food out for free access (he eats like a dog) and he should probably be a little closer to 9 pounds ideally.

Finally i got a picture of when he's fluffy : catherinetterings.deviantart.c…
This is Leo and he is now 12.5 pounds after 1 year , My other Bengal is very small and settled at just 9 pounds after 18 month .

Big tail! Does he do a "crabwalk" too? Loki will occasionally and randomly decide that the noise of movement he heard from the hall must be an interloper (and not Theo) and will briefly fluff up his tail and crabwalk towards the doorway - by coincidence he did it just a few minutes ago

Loki seems to have settled at just under 14 pounds. I was under-reading his weight for a while as I didn't read the instructions on the electronic scales which said "use on a hard surface" and had placed them on the carpet (it wasn't even plush carpet - bah, the old fashioned mechanical scales weren't so fussy) - I should have realised after standing on them myself but instead preferred to think I was trimmer than I'd expected.

My other cat, Theo, will fluff his tail occasionally - but it's much rarer for him to do so. I did get a video clip of him with a fluffed tail making very odd noises at one of the neighbour's cats (a neighbours cat that's maybe 3 pounds heavier than him) until the other cat got weirded out and ran off:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1wbL5…

On breeds like Bengals and Abyssinians as their tail fur is very flat normally there's quite a big contrast when they fluff it up!

14 pounds , is quite a big cat !
Yes , He Does the funny Crabwalk but my other cat Spock doesn't and almost never fluff his tail .
Leo is more easily startled than Spock , he will run in the hallway and suddenly jump has high as possible to dodge a tiny piece of dirt on the floor , then fluff his tail and approach the dirt very carefully . They also run after one another and Play-fight a lot, Especially around 4 and 6 am ,it makes a lot of noise on the hardwood floor. What i like is they have both very different personalities , i find that fascinating . Spock recently started to put one of his paw in the water while drinking .

Thankfully my two are fairly quiet at night -. They usually have a burst of energy as I go to bed but it rarely last longer than 10 minutes. Theo will often decide he wants to curl up with me, but like my previous Abyssinian he takes ages to settle down so he'll keep getting up and changing position while I try avoid getting his butt in my face. They both seem to doze through the night. Unfortunately Theo starts campaigning for food about hour in advance of each of his mealtimes - so it's not unusual for him to start being friendly to me from 6am, going to and fro from the bedside table and head-butting me.

Loki's breeder said that it's a very common trait in Bengals for them to scrape the surface of water before drinking from it (presumably an instinct to clear it) - she also pointed out they have webbed paws . I have a cat drinking fountain and both cats like drinking from the falling stream of water rather than the bowl below - Loki doesn't put his paw in there very often, it tends to be Theo who does that. Theo's terrible for putting his paw my night-time water glass and seeming eternally surprised that his paw gets wet (as he shakes the water over me).
