Description I was looking through my pictures from my stay in Japan, and I thought I should post some of the images I never used.

It is the beginning of April, and to me that means only one thing... Odori! The Kitano, Kyo, and Miyako Odori of the respective Kamishichiken, Miyagawacho, and Gion Kobu geisha districts all take place during this time. Out of all of these, I enjoyed the Kyo Odori the most.

In this scene, Komomo plays a 'charming young lady with a lighthearted smile' who frolicks with friends among fields of Na no hana blossoms in Sagano. Na no hana is a beautiful flower that I enjoyed very much during my stay in Japan... but it has a terrible name in English- the rape blossom.

The name derives from the Latin word for turnip "rapum" while the other meaning of that name derives from the latin "rapere" meaning to conquer or to invade. I'm not entirely sure if I want to know how exactly the word rapum was changed to rape, and whether the word rapere had already been changed, but in any case I think the name of this flower should just be changed. So, when I was first posting my pictures of this scene a year ago, I made the executive decision to not translate their name. I'm hardly the first to do so. You all know what canola oil is right? Well guess what, it doesn't come from canola, but advertisers long ago decided that it's real source isn't very marketable.

So beautiful, I want their kimono so much! I love odori kimono. I particularly like blue stripes with a black collar

Blue stripes and a black collar sounds like a chic combination . I'd love a grey/azuki-bean colored striped hikizuri with a black collar. Maybe I'll get to see it on stage one day...

Yeah, "Rape Oil" isn't gonna sell well, and you have to look askance at the people who would have it in their carts. Bloody shame, as it is, as you said, a very nice flower.

Some people do sell it under it's real name 'rapeseed oil', but it's considered a luxury item... even though it's canola oil! It really is a beautiful flower, and to see full hills covered in it is just too beautiful for words... if only it didn't have that name.
