Description When I returned to school after Spring Break, everything had started to bloom. So, my photographer and I got together and held my Spring Kitsuke photoshoot, to go with my Autumn and Winter one.

This is my Heisei period irotomesode that I've named Mihoe [link] which features a design of famous sites in Kyoto with the urushi technique (weaving a design with lacquered threads). The fukuro obi has a design of pine branches and plum blossoms over water. I liked this combination a lot, but it was too warm for the bright sunlight that day.

I actually learned what these flowers were in Japanese before I learned that they're called Lily Magnolias in English. In Japanese they are called Mokuren, combiniing the kanji for tree and lotus. Pretty flower and pretty name, no matter what the language .

I love how the kimono goes so well with the surroundings! I like how the green goes well with the grass/plants and the flowers goes well with the obi.

Ah good, I was wondering what they were. XD I saw them when going up to the graveyard tonight to identify a tree back there. They do look a lot like lotus.

As for the picture, this is a very lovely shot. ^^

Glad I could be of help . It was bugging me for a while that I didn't know what to call them in English. I figured out there were some kind of magnolia, but that didn't help in the whole naming process...

Because I'm so short, my fukuro looks wide on me, but your's doesn't on you ('cause you're taller obviously) but still, do you think it looks better wide or narrow? (round-about way to get to a question, and a weird question at that.)

Personally, I think wider obi are more flattering. Narrow ones just look so pathetic next to really long sleeves, while wide obi can hold their own .
