The sakura are in bloom, and now it is the season for hanami and spring photoshoots. I feel really lucky to be living near Washington DC right now, it feels as if everyone has a sakura tree in their yard. There seem to be a lot of Yoshino-zakura here, but every now and then there's a gorgeous weeping sakura tree. Ahhhh~

The first time I every went to view sakura in kimono, I wore something with deep colors, but I saw several women wearing light, airy pastels, and ever since then I associate hanami with pastel colors. So, for this photoshoot, I wore a light green komon with a design of green leaves, a white nagoya obi with a design of painted butterflies, an orange obiage with a design of sakura, a multi-colored obijime, and a kanzashi of Kamakura-bori with a cut-out of a butterfly. It had the lightness that I think a hanami ensemble needs.
