what kind of fabric did you use for the claws? I am planning on making a Toothless of my own and I'm trying to figure out the best kinds of fabric to use for it.

I think I used some black pleather...it took a little finessing to get them to turn right-side out since it was a thick fabric, but you might be able to find some thinner stuff. Good luck!

I love it so much!! How long did it take you to make this? I'm planning to sew one myself. I hope it turns out as great as yours!

Aww you're sweet! It probably took me about 15 hours to sew him together, some of it by machine, some of it by hand. Best of luck, and Katy-A's pattern is the best one out there.

Would you be willing to make one for me? I'm going through a rough time with my parents divorcing and moving into a new house. My dad is moving away so I probably wont be able to see him that often. This is my favorite movie ever!! And it's so adorable!! You did I great job!! You can contact me at kaylee.haas@yahoo.com

Hello Kaylee,
I am sorry to say that I do not make these for other people...The amount of time it takes is simply too long and I have too much going on in my life at the moment. My deep sympathies for you and your family, as I bet things feel like they are being turned upside-down. If you want this plushie, a good way to get it might be to make one yourself. It takes a while, but the pattern is a great one here on DA and might give you something else to think about for a while. Plus you can feel very accomplished when you are done. In the meantime I would suggest seeing your father as much as you can. I am sorry if I have overstepped my bounds, and best of luck to you.

how did you do his claws? in Katy-A's pattern, it says to only cut 4, but yours look like you cut 8 and stuffed them...
Oh and another thing-- did you use a sewing machine or did you do it all by hand?

gaernavi In reply to soyyemilk [2013-07-24 11:21:01 +0000 UTC]
That was something I did a little differently. I made each claw individually (two pieces of fabric stitched together and stuffed)...so I guess it was 32 pieces (2x4x4)? I used a sewing machine for as much as I could, but had to do hand sewing for the details (head, toes).

okay, thanks! I might do that as well, because the one I am making is going to be quite large. I might also do that with the spikes.

gaernavi In reply to soyyemilk [2013-07-25 00:28:44 +0000 UTC]
I would recommend it...I used a one-sided fabric, and so it was the only way it was going to look ok. It does take more work, but looks better. I wish you the best with it!

Thanks for the advise and luck! I will definitely try that for the claws and the spikes!

Love. Have been looking at other people's Night Fury's from Katy A's pattern because I am a bit wary of the body. ?.? I see someone made a colour line thing which was very helpful, I just wish someone would make one for the body. Should be interesting, lol!

Haha, I made a color line thing and I'm glad if it was helpful. The body isn't as hard as the head, and Katy-A's tutorial is really good. Best of luck!

Cool thanks. I have decided to use Katy A's pattern but I'm not going to use it to make a Toothless. I am converting it to make my own dragon. I am taking of the horns and most of the spikes and making it massive. I am going to ad on my own horns and my own wings.

I dont suppose you could explain to me how you went about making those eyes? I use resin but i've never painted it, but i'm makin a toothless and i'd like him to have nice eyes like yours....

gaernavi In reply to CrystalRox [2012-07-31 13:32:34 +0000 UTC]
Thank you, and I'll do my best:
1. Pour resin into round molds to the size you need and let cure (the plastic paint palettes work well as molds). I had to chill mine in the freezer after curing to get the resin to pop out.
2. Fold an adhesive label or other sticky-backed paper or plastic in half and cut out two of your pupil shape at once, which will give you two that are mirror images.
3. Stick the pupil shapes to the flat backs of your resin pieces. Take time to get the positioning just right and use your fingernail to squeeze out any air bubbles around the edges. Toothless's pupils are off-center and closer to his nose when he looks forward.
4. Using a fine bush, paint the details near the center of the eye and work outward. Let each layer dry in-between. This is reverse painting, and eventually the back of the eye will be covered in paint.
5. With your fingernails or a needle, carefully remove the sticker you painted over.
6. Paint black paint where the sticker was and the eyes are finished.
7. Attach the eyes with glue (I used hot glue)
I hope that helps!

gaernavi In reply to Invadercoco [2011-06-08 11:26:34 +0000 UTC]
Hehe, a Toothless plush is always a good thing. My one suggestion is to spend time and find a fabric you really like the feel of, as well as find one that won't fray. Even different kinds of fleece, which people like to make this pattern out of, feel different.
