Description I was bored and I started to draw... This simple draw is the result. It came out with a naΓ―ve style I actually like… so, I decided to submit it.

I really love the composition in this peice. My eyes are drawn down the sky to the woman, then fall through the vortex, then back up the swirl to the woman again. She looks as though she is inviting me to come and join her. I really like all the fine details in the background, the sky and the clouds they have so much life in them!

Thank you for a such nice comment! I truly appreciated it! You got the point.. she is inviting the observer to join her... Naiad and mermaid usually like to have new people for dinner !
Thanks again! And sorry for a such late reply! Lately, I'm too busy at work!

Wonderful work, as always. I am glad to see you submitting more work recently. I really enjoy the color in this one. The way you have portrayed the subject is a bit surprising - the angular feel is not what I would expect in a picture of a naiad, but you have used it to very good effect. And as usual, I love the way you fill spaces with texture and pattern, not just color. A strong artist can use line, color, shape, texture, and value together in one image, and you have done so. You have a great eye for composition as well - that I one thing I always enjoy in your drawings. I love the way the curves of her figure and hair are repated in the spiral below her. Awesome job.

Wow that's really nice! I especially love how you've done the sky.. It's a great composition with all the swirls & the blue tones are perfect.. I wonder how it would look like when the black design would be ..dark blue..?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Galhad In reply to staje [2005-06-29 12:04:26 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for the comment and th e!!
I immagined that the lower part of the draw (the black one) it's simply the frame. My idea was to suggest that the Naiad has a tail under the water… But, at the same time, the solid black ink suggests that this is not part of the draw… it’s simply a way to β€˜frame’ it… so it’s a sort of compromise between the representation and the framing… as I usually do in my draws.
May be I'll do an other version all in blue! we'll see, we'll see...

Hey you're welcome!
Ow don't get me wrong; I really like the black design! I just wondered if it would look better in darkblue.. I think it's a very cool way to 'frame' it Thanks for explaining..

i love your work. all the little subtle details that make it turn out so smooth and beautiful.

the only thing is.. to me the black and white water ripples around her seem a little to drastic.. like the rest of the picture is all these subtle color changes and then bam! black and white solid lines.

the whole picture is awesome.. but the bottom just doesn't quite match up with the top for me.

Galhad In reply to nightmary [2005-06-28 09:35:20 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the comment and criticism!!! I was waiting for such a comment! In fact, I partially agree with you… But I've a couple of excuses!
First of all, I made the drawing in a very free way.. I came out as it wanted (I'm not sure it's clear.. anyway, what I mean is that I didn’t have any project in mind...)
Second, and that it's perhaps the stronger reason, you should imagine that the lower part of the draw it's simply the frame. My idea was to suggest that the Naiad has a tail under the water… But, at the same time, the solid black ink suggests that this is not part of the draw… it’s simply a way to β€˜frame’ it… so it’s a sort of compromise between the representation and the framing… as I usually do in my draws.
Finally, it wouldn’t be original if I followed the 'common rules' by painting the lower part in the same style as the top….

Anyway, as long as my idea doesn’t appear clear to all the watchers I failed to communicate with them…

May be I can do a second and more traditional version by following your suggestion! I do it if I’ll be in the right mood!!
Thanks again for the useful criticisms!!!

Isn't it great when you produce something completely freely and without putting any pressure on yourself? Sometimes the best artwork you create is when, as you say, you're just bored and you pick up the pen or pencil and start letting go. I think this is a perfect example of what I'm trying to say. Wonderful work as ever. I love the patterns and the interesting shapes that you create, and moreover, I'm a great fan of the way that you border and frame your images a lot of the time. It gives it that illustrative look that I personally find so attractive. Keep it up!

Every time I read them I was thinking I had to find the right words to fully thank you for all the suggestions and comments you gave to me... But I always posticipated my reply.. It's difficult to tell how much I appreciated your comments... thus forgive these poor words... they are the best I found to thank you.
