I'd argue that Varric is "Neutral". Neutral Good if anything. For Maker's sake, he's compassionate as hell, and honestly tries to be friendly with everyone. Even Cassandra.....eventually.

Morrigan is somewhere between CN and CE. She would rather give an undeserving being freedom than leave them chained for her own benefit. That's major points for Chaotic in the Law VS Chaos department.

I am not sure Loghain is Evil. After reading the books and really looking into him I would he's in the neutral scale.

it's the stuff he did in Origins that puts him in evil
good intentions don't override essentially pushing your king into his death and enslaving dozens of Elves

He didn't push the king into death though. He ignored Loghain and his warnings for the sake of glory. The Elves I can't excuse though.

Cailan knew it was a lost battle, Loghain prevented him from acquiring the only thing that could have saved them, the Orlesian Warden's
Loghain doomed Cailan by letting his bigotry prevent them from getting much needed troops, when Loghain turned that option down Cailan knew they were all going to die and decided to just die fighting for the good of his country
Loghain cares about the dirt of Ferelden, not its people, he'd happily let the Blight occupy his country rather than let a single Orlesian soldier set foot passed the border

How many Wardens were coming? I doubt those handful of wardens could have won. If Loghain's reserved army couldn't which it wouldn't I doubt a few hundred wardens would either.
Cailain was young and the smarter move would have been to pull back and find a better position.

Garchompisbeast In reply to TheAsorlinsStrike [2016-06-20 23:02:37 +0000 UTC]
there was no option to pull back
it was either fight or let the Darkspawn claim Ostagar unaided and then swarm into Ferelden unmatched which they ended up doing anyway
if Loghain stayed or allowed the Orlesian's help they'd have had a much better chance of survival

There is a post on Tumblr I want to show you but I can't find it. But in the end I will say the best option would be to leave Ostagar. Then as the Dark Spawns scatter pick of the war parties. Loghain allowed a civil war which destroyed any chance of that.

i'd switch Varric and Sten around, Sten is more inclined to do evil actions more than Varric as Varric has more of a conscience

I'd say switch Logain out into Lawful Neutral and place him next to Sten who should be in true neutral, Unlike Rendon Loghain never wanted power for the sake of power and truly believed that he's actions were for the greater good
Now Rendon deserves Neutral Evil as at times the Weasel hides behind the law of the land to justify his actions (Accusing Bryce of being a turncoat to justify his coup comes to mind) but then a large amount is actions also put him in the Chaotic Evil slot as well (Wat he did to the Alienage, His attempt to ugrade from friend/master traitor to regicide with Anora (Unlike What Loghain did which he by logic had every reason not to think he had to commit regicide what with some of the questionable actions Cailen did, and yes if his plan worked it would have unity countries, But then the nobles of Orlais would be lining up to take back what they believed they lost when Maric and Loghain kicked them out of the counrty when they lost the war) and the people he had imprisoned and/or tortued for nothing but petty matters

personally i'd put Loghain as worse than Rendon, what Loghain did would have doomed the entire world as he was too stubborn/stupid to see the obvious need for the Grey Wardens
plus he believed that the Orlesians were a worse threat than the Blight and would have sat with his back turned on Ferelden as it got torn apart to watch the Orlesian borders and make sure that none got in

NotaArtistJustReview In reply to Garchompisbeast [2013-04-10 00:58:18 +0000 UTC]
Indeed note that Flemeth believed he thought that it was an army that he could beat (As he did defeat the so called unbeatable Orlesians) and he didn't see the full bulk, Plus the political stuff with Cailen who was pretty much ignoring ever warning and advice he was giving him including trusting the Orlesians and the gray Wardens so easly (With the Gray Wardens they did have a bad reputation already hell almost everyone in Ferelden pretty much viewed them as useless has-beens most likely one of the reasons why most people outside the country view them as backwater and backwards on everything not Ferelden, That and he truly believed in one of the calling that Duncun and his group kidnapped Meric and the whole attack on the circle with Orlesian Circle Mages by the Archtect with Duncun's old commander at the site on the Architects side didn't help things), Make him Gray Warden and he'll be kicking himself once he relizes the threat he deemed the least threat was alot bigger then he thought and he was a huge idiot for his dick move at Ostagar
Who's worser then Rendon, At least Loghain cared for his country, All Rendon cared for was Rendon Howe nothing more nothing less, He was like Nero, Had he won and kept his power in the end he'd most likely be on the roof with the archdemon still trying to deny that his perfect world of power which he blieved he deserve was burning around him before becoming a meal, or cut up, or well done ETC. Rendon was a monster who got what he really deserved in the end, Just sad the rest of the Howe name and his childern had to go down with him.
He would not have ignored the huge ass dragon leading the huge ass army he believed didn't exist and was a gray warden lie though, But by then they would have been already at Denerim he would have been too late to deal with it, and likely would have done his best to go down swinging after mounting at least a managable last stand.
Remember no matter how evil a characterexcept maybe in Dragon age is, one surpasses Rendon in the monster factor (except the asshole Templers and Blood Mages, and especially that Blood Mage who killed Hawke's mother and the Lord High Seeker Lambert who I will kill if given the chance on my first playthrough of Dragon age 3 even if it sucks)

Fenris could have been a much better character had they not tried to make him a Final Fantasy angst character in a western Baldur's Gate/Dungeons and Dragons type RPG who whined every damn second about Slavery and Mages are Evil, Yes we get it already though Anders was worse, I was like WTF had to him since Awakening he was funny and my favorite character in Awakening WTH did they do to him (and worse they brought another of my fav justice down with him too), To me the Story began and ended in Dragon Age Origins, everything outside of Awakening are pretty much spin offs to me not sequels

i personally believe that what Anders did was mainly Justices fault, if you rivalmance Anders you can convince him to give up his plan completely and accept the way things are between Templars and Mages but it shows that Justice gets even more militant

Nope, Blame the writers for that "But Thou Must" moment in that Ander's still goes through with it, Though I'll give points in them reminding that even Spirits can be just as dangerous to people as the damn Fade demons

Chaotic good: Anders (He was also in Dragon Age Awakening, but he went a bit crazy in da2)
true neutral: Varric (surfasser dwarf and probably the coolest character in the entire series, i don't know anyone who doesn't like him. He's a bit everyones uncle)
chaotic neutral: Isabella (Pirate and rather selfish, but has a soft core somewhere. You can meet her in DaO in the perl, but she looks quite different. she teaches you The Duellist-abilities. You can even have a threesome with her and Alistair or Zevran, don't know which it was.)
