Mana - (g) of Malice Mizer (Disbanded) and (g) of Moi Dix Mois.and I had a conversation over who was top 5 or so hardest and easiest to draw jrockers. mona mentioned Mana ...,and then I felt like drawing Mana. So mona said if I was going to draw him, I should do Gardenia...and here he is. The face was okay to do. What really got me was Mana's outfit...it it so elaborate! Not even the hair could match the pain I had going through the details of his outfit, and the flowers. In the actual picture his eyelashes look brown near the root and blue at the tips. So they actually as a whole look brown, even though we know they are blue. So I tried to mimick it but it was difficult. The other Mana Gardenia picture I could do had the eyelashes more blue, but I felt it was too much of a closeup picture of his face. This one was just right, but his eyelashes were tweaked somehow. I also couldn't get the tilt of his head, but in general I have trouble with that =T

hardest to draw JRocker...hmm...well, The Piass are the hardest group to draw...ever. They themselves are very difficult to draw, and it's impossible to find pictures of them...but they're my faves!!

Did I say Gardenia? *ish so teh forgetful* I wonder why...must be something about the whiteness. Well I'm not good at critique...The hands, perhaps? The close-up of this pic you were talking about? i've drawn it before but there wasn't much of the costume so the hair was the most difficult for me...
This is not really a tip, per se, I'm just saying: what I do with high exposure pics like this is tone down the contrast so that you can see the nose and such. Your ref pic, did you print it out and base your drawing on that? I draw straight from the comp so maybe it won't work on paper...

yea, i printed the pic out and drew it straight from there. But that is a very useful tip! I usually look at a picture i print and use my eyes to decided what colour at that exact point it is (does that make sense?). Sometimes the printed version is ambiguous you know, so that tip is very useful, thanks so much!
Yup you said gardenia! hahaha, i had the pic printed and didn't work on it until two weeks or so later. In the original pic you can't tell where his hands are too much because it is very white, but perhaps i should go in and fix it up a bit? The bangs are really bothering me, so while i'm fixing the hands i might as well fix the bangs as well...they aren't darkened enough.

I prefer drawing using the ref on the comp since I like being able to enlarge the pic till you can count the number of eyelashes on each eye, etc. T_T I have a mania for detail, ahahaha. It helps being able to hog the comp for hours on end! ^______________^ Well no one uses it at 3 in the morning, so...
I really really like Mana's Voyage Sans Retour outfits but they are soooooooooo detailed I think I would die. Maybe I'll draw one tonight! *completely forgets about the Kaoru/Kyo/Tetsu69/Ryan Seacrest/Ayu/Steven Gerrard/Miyavi pics she owes people*
