this is just great, the details just amazing, you actually made hierogliphs to match...

great job. i like that dark purple-ish red (i would have said maroon, but it seems brighter).
id have to say that the hat looks a bit crooked. i think that the closer flap should be a bit longer.
aside from that, this is very good.

My favourite part of this has got to be his eye...
There's lots of character in the way you rendered the face, the expression, but in particular, the eye is what breathes life into the creature's image.

I kind of like the light source effect of the bird many seem to have been complaining about... it almost seems to be making an subtle gesture, or effect.

My biggest critique as far as what could be improved on, is the inconsistency in sharpness and smudgeyness... but then, working in digital that can be quite tough to do without making things look TOO polished and too airbrushy. I have a tough time keeping that consistent in my works as well.

Keep up the cracking work, you've done an excellent job on this...
I almost wish this one would have gotten the DD, or hell, both of em!

mind blowing detail. oddly enough i have to say those hieroglyphs are my favorite part.

i think i agree with the very sharpness of the bird. maybe a little more highlighting in grey or blue would soften it a little and make it fit in better? or define the beak a little more, to give it a different texture from the rest of the bird?

i don't think there is too much of an issue with shadowing. the lighting overall is so muted that i don't think the bird would cast more than a vague smudge somewhere.

This is just -wicked- cool. Stunning detail, and excellent choice on the colors! for sure.

I turn my back for just a little bit and you somehow manage to get even better than you were before! Please, don't evolve any more until I can catch up!!!

You'll forgive me, but I wouldn't slow down right now if I could. Time to make something of myself.

Good to hear from you.

I would say instead, that your progress with the WACOM is nothing short of astounding! I am sure that you will turn to the finer subleties once you are comfortable in this medium.

~~addendum~~

Now that I look at this a bit more, it starts to feel like that little bird is giving off it's own light source.

Question: What material is the headdress made from? Seems to me that it should feel less soft. The draping behind the head feels smudged. His shoulders are still bugging me, but you know that. I'm intruiged by the wisdom in his expression.

The bird is a touch too crisp - as others have said. Perhaps part of it is due to the fact that you lightened around him to make him stand out. Then again, it could be that very distinct highlight on his beak as well as his ultra-crisp silhouette.

Otherwise, I'm loving the care you've taken in rendering this horned fellow. It's nice to see you exploring this style - and executing anthro better than many I've seen.

Would recommend you scale the entire piece down for ease of viewing.

Very cool. Like others have said, the bird (and also the column on the right) look like they were just placed on there. But yeah, it's cool; he looks so proper.

beautiful work. the scales and the eyes are very tediously and well done. the beak looks great.
my only critiques would be on the small bird on his finger, it looks a little too crisp compared to the claw its on, plus its casting no shadow even though the light source is from up and in front slightly. also i think the back of his head dress should be a little more detailed, it looks a bit too smudgy. apart from that, this is really good stuff.

off to see you gallery now.

this is really nice. the only problem i have with it is just that the bird seemed to be slapped onto the piece, since the dragon has a softer tone, and the bird has a harder one.
