Back in the day when I was an X junkie, Cannonball was probably my favorite mutant (next to Strong Guy that is). The Cannonball/Gladiator fight from Joe Mad's run is one of my favorite fights in comics. Always loved the character, but what I really would have loved to seen was Guthrie portrayed more as a retro swashbuckling Rocketeer type. You know...the whole clumsy-flier-saving-the-dame-from-evil-Nazis type of tales. I think it could have worked well, just play up the naive farmboy aspect of Guthrie a lot more. Woulda made for some fun reading.Not sure what his costume looks like nowadays (barely remember it from back when I read em), but thought I'd try him with a leather jacket to help sell that Rocketeer image I was lookin for.
Anyway, saw this, so I decided to color it up real quick while I was waiting on flats. I probably shoulda flatted it so I could go back and make some easy fixes, but just wanted a fun/fast piece to practice coloring over pencils on.

yeah that was a impresive fight with madureira at his best, my only complain was that sam did not last long with the xmen, the wolverine-cannonball duple was a good one.

That should tell ya how long it's been since I read an X-book. I didn't even know he wasn't on the team anymore. But yeah, that issue was an impressive fight. Was good to see Sam getting to go toe to toe with a major power.

LOL... it's a small world my friend... I'm gonna be on a inking spree here soon... got a bit set back with illness, but am ok now... I have a number of Caanan's work, Jeremy Dale sketches and a number of sequentials on my plate... so yeah, good things on the horizon...

Haha, agreed! They wouldn't have to make him a twit. He could still be as smart and resourceful as they had him in the early 2k's, just make him really naive. Would make for a good read. If only I had connections!
