Description The BBMF MkV banking around the top corner at Rougham. Besides the serial, AB910 wears the markings of AB502, the personal aircraft flown by Wg Cdr Ian Gleed over North Africa in 1943. A Battle of Britain veteran, Gleed's final Spitfire was marked with his initials rather than squadron codes, a common practise amongst officers of his seniority in the RAF. Gleed was shot down and killed whilst flying AB502 in April 1943. AB910 was repainted for the 2007 season.

I never realised the different number of exhaust stacks and three bladed prop but I haven't photographed AB910 well for ages. I did notice in a book though that AB502, Gleeds Spit, was a  cropped LF MkV, but I guess that BBMF were never going to chop the wingtips off!

Well I'm far more into piston types/warbirds than other forms of aviation, so I tend to take a closer interest in these kind of things I guess. I certainly follow the historic scene quite closely.

As for the wing tips, personally I would love it if they did chop them off so to speak. There's far too few clipped spits around for my liking.

Awesome! I've never seen a Spitfire painted like that.

As much as I love North Africa liveries, AB910 looks a million times better in her brand new colours for 2015. Admittedly much of that has to do with the splendid job carried out at Duxford to put her back to stock condition. The four blades and six stack exhaust never suited the baby Spitfire profile.
