A rare expression to find on Alucard's face... A very nice theme.

I like his expression... you made him look less badass and more humane... as if he could really laugh of a joke for instance... ^_^

Bright and colorful, love the soft shading on the jacket and the eyes. Personally I might have gone a little lighter on the background, the high contrast is a little distracting. Overall it's a cool pic, though, good composition!

Personally I think the best background for a character sketch is often no background at all, or just something very light. After all, if I went to a portrait studio to get my picture taken and all the photography cared about was messing with the background, I'd be a little worried! I know I'm going against the conventional logic here, I don't know why people rant on about backgrounds so, I just don't want them to distract me from the image... Well, unless you want to make a complete composition with a background, in which case you should plan it all out that way in the original sketch, and color the background first, not last--well, I'm just going by this great tutorial by Ursula Vernon at Elfwood where she says to work from the back to the front--drat! It doesn't seem to be listed in the index anymore and the example pics are broken, grrr... Well, here's what I can find that's left of it [link]
Damn, I was hoping to go through that tutorial when I was ready for backgrounds, right now I'm just trying to make foregrounds, LOL! I don't know Ursula but maybe I'll send her a note and ask if it's intact anywhere, ah, too chicken...
