Description I've seen poor artists go through this and I myself experienced a painful bout of it not long ago.

I understand when OC seems to copy everything yours owns. Ex: Appearance, personality, back story. And you mark it "character theft", but if the character only has a similar appearance and nothing else... you're merely - quote a friend: "shitting yourself over something insignificant and it makes you look like a total pansy".

Appearances are one thing, but if that's all you\re basing this "theft" on, then you need to go grow up.

I had an OC - still have her - with a similar appearance to another's. However, that's where the similarities ended. They're was nothing similar in back stories, family, culture, personality. They were two totally different characters.

Regardless, I changed the design a little bit to get the artist and their crazy rabid killer fans off my back. I don't regret changing the design a bit, because the OC is even better now. But I do regret "crediting" them. My friends and even my family thinks I shouldn't have, because they didn't see copying either. And I agree. I might just take off the credit.

Anyways, off me and onto other artists that go through this. It's unfair. It's totally unfair. I understand being suspicious if an OC looks like yours, but if that's where the similarities end then, to be quite blunt

Fuck off.

I also feel inclined to mention that there's bigger problems to worry about then a stupid character theft if that WAS the case. I'm sure you have things better to do then to go after every OC that looks like yours. Yeah, I'd be a bit upset if my character was copied, but really. I wouldn't freak out like a lot of artists do...

Furthermore, an OC in a fandom is an "outside character", and you don't technically own it. If it's part of that fandom and comes from that fandom, you're taking ideas from that fandom and they aren't yours. I'm fully aware I don't own, nor can I truly copyright my OCs. I just have them for fun.

So keep that in mind too. The character isn't even truly yours.
