I am slowing buying stuff for the costumes so that I can afford it. When I buy the fabric for the Todd costume I will be using coupons from Joann's Fabric to get it half off.

I have also dug through fabric I already for the wraith queen costume. I think I have only had to buy a couple of yards of fabric for that one.

I have got him hooked on it to now, and my best friend. She wants a wraith Queen costume to. We now have all 5 seasons.

We watched the last episode all together. My best friend keep glaring at me ever time I made a noise of protest about that darn jump suit they put Todd in.

oh yeah. I am going to make Todd commander jacket. I have been drawing out how it must come apart. As soon as I finish my queen costume I am going to start making a mock up pattern to make the jacket. I have found fabric already. I am not using leather 1 cause is pricey and 2 because my machine can't sew through it. So I am using some high end vinyl.

sabresedge In reply to GenieMiller [2009-07-13 02:49:50 +0000 UTC]

both arn't fun to sew through though... i have (its with my mom till i clam it adn take it away) an old wormgear singer that can sew through ANYTHING....it went through 9, 9!!!! layers of thick denim over and over and didn't every notice a thing... she was repairing something and had to backstitch in one spot a lot and it folded under its self . ...a royal pain to rip out...

GenieMiller In reply to sabresedge [2009-07-13 03:06:07 +0000 UTC]

I have a 1950s Necchi. Which is an Italian sewing machine. It will sew through leather I would bet but, I really don't want to push it that hard. I am far more familiar with sewing vinyl. I have made corsets for over a decade with the stuff.

I use to use an Elna, which is a Swedish sewing machine. It belongs to my mom, very user friendly. I am the only woman in my family that doesn't use one. It can sew through vinyl but not to many layers. I will probably inherit it along with her surger.

I am glad you have had good luck with a Singer. I personally have never liked using them. I had to use them when working with the drama club at my old high school. Out of all 3 I couldn't find one that wouldn't keep jamming while sewing felt. It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth after that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sabresedge In reply to GenieMiller [2009-07-13 16:29:54 +0000 UTC]

the difference is this is a OLD OLD singer.(i inherited it from my great aunt on my dads side cause i am the only one in the family that might use it) I think it was the kind they used in the factories... the newer singers (after using plastic parts) are kinda crapy. And the thing about this one is that it doesn't have a sewing belt. I don't ever remember it having a problem sewing felt. We don't actually use it that much cause its an antique.

My mom has a computerized Janome embroidery sewing machine. I have an old dressmaker that I think is coming close to dieing.

the thing about vinyl is that if you make a mistake and have to rip out a seam its hard to hide it cause once there is a hole.. there is a hole. Or at least the vinyl we use had that prob

GenieMiller In reply to sabresedge [2009-07-15 03:19:38 +0000 UTC]

Old singers, now that a different story. They do rock. My buddy Karl has one made for leather work you could sew through a bone with the thing. His is from a factory in the 20s. It kind of scares him at times. Which is funny if you knew him. He does a lot of professional leather work for profit.

I am very jealous now of you sewing machine.

Yeah with vinyl it not very forgiving if you goof up, even the higher end ones. It just the nature of that beast.

, I would agree. I haven't met him yet, I'm only on season 2..., why does Aiden Ford have to become the enzyme junkie character?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GenieMiller In reply to BoardBreaker93 [2009-07-13 02:29:24 +0000 UTC]

He is a great character. I wish they would have used him more. He is introduced in season 3, but really is not used much until 4 and 5.

I like to watch the commentary and interviews, and the directors said they didn't realize before how much they wanted/needed a wraith that one could talk to. Instead of the I just want to feed/destroy you wraiths.

I don't know why they turned Ford into a junkie. I kind of wondered if the actor asked for more pay, or they just ran out of ideas. The other thing could be the actor wanted to do other things. I think he plays the part quite well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BoardBreaker93 In reply to GenieMiller [2009-07-13 02:47:26 +0000 UTC]

Maybe they wanted a human character that actually posed a threat to the Wraith, one that hunts the hunters? That would make sense. I still think Ronon is awesome, though he couldn't take Ford in a fight.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GenieMiller In reply to BoardBreaker93 [2009-07-13 03:11:20 +0000 UTC]

That would make sense. It did make some interesting plot lines and directions to take the characters.

I think my bet would be on Ronon. Once you watch more of his characters fighting and a fight with a cos-over star in season 5 you could understand then why. They defiantly develop his character more as the storyline progresses.

Now it if involved skill with how to plant bombs and use higher tech equipment to take each other out, then I would be betting on Ford.

This is really cool
I always wondered why they didn't show more Wraith children(babies?), i really liked the one with the little girl (can't remember her name?lol) but then i think that putting more in the show would have made the Wraith seem less mencing somehow.

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

PKBitchGirl In reply to Lyprith [2010-01-04 15:56:52 +0000 UTC]

The wraith girl was Elia, I liked her when I first saw the episode but when I rewatch the ep I now, unfortunately, find her annoying due to the fact that, being played by Jewel Staite, she has Keller's voice.

I'd much rather have seen her become a regular addition to the show than Keller, it would have been interesting to see a wraith living on Atlantis (though we eventually got that with Todd) especially due to the fact that that she seemed a bit taken with Ronon

LRMHamilton In reply to Lyprith [2009-05-08 03:49:43 +0000 UTC]

Elia was her name. Played by Jewel Strait, same person plays Dr. Jenn Keller

Really, I just finally watched that episode a few days ago and didn't notice that. Man this show loves re-using actors.

I only recently realized Halling and Todd are the same actor. Did you know there are 2 episodes where they dub over that actors voice and use another actor to play the physical body of Todd.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

PKBitchGirl In reply to GenieMiller [2010-01-04 16:03:04 +0000 UTC]

They did the same with Connor Trineer in the last ep of season two (Allies, I think?). He wasn't available due to the fact that the ep was filmed around the time his wife was due to have their baby so Brent Staite (from Andromeda) was wraithified and Connor dubbed him over.

I thought Michael looked best at the end of 'Michael', he looked creepy there, I didn't think the hybrid makeup looked as good in other episodes.

As for Todd, it sorta kills me that the main stamp for fans of Todd on Deviant Art isn't of Chris!Todd, it's of as played by Brendan Penny, I'm not much of a fan of Penny!Todd's look, he looks girl compared to Chris!Todd

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GenieMiller In reply to PKBitchGirl [2010-01-05 01:05:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I heard about that. He looked really way to greenish/yellow. But then again that the episodes with the orange wraith queen.

I am debating about which Michael I liked the best. It is hard to choose cause he looks different each darn episode.

I didn't see the stamp yet. They used Penny...arg! I always thought Penny's Todd looked like Todd was still a teenager and was wearing his dad's clothing.

LRMHamilton In reply to GenieMiller [2009-05-09 16:17:31 +0000 UTC]

What!? I didn't know that! Which episodes?
Yah, almost every single wraith queen was played by Andee Frizell, and wraiths like Steve, Shawn, Bob, hivekeepers first in command, and others were played by James Lafazanos (I don't know if I spelt some of those names right).
Indeed, they like reusing actors; one episode of Atlantis freaked me out at first because I thought it was Linaya the Destroyers of Worlds, but she was actually playing a diff character

[link] Be all my sins Remembered (visual refer here-->full length [link] os=81 and Close up [link] os=82 This actor is much smaller than the Chris Heyerdahl, you can tell with how the costume is sitting on him.
[link] Spoils of War (Visual Refer [link] os=26) Which isn't as bad, I think they tailored the costume for that episode.

[link]
[link] The real Todd.

I am glad they at least dubbed Chris Heyerdahl voice over otherwise, I would be really pissed about this. I just want to know why they had some one else play Todd.

I knew about the wraith queens and James L. Did you notice he doesn't play any wraiths after the second season.

I am glad they got the primary played by another female. I was starting to wonder about the gene pool for female wraiths. Which made me ponder if all wraith females are tall and Teyla shorter than Mrs Frizell wouldn't that be a dead give away she not really a wraith. Thankfully not an issue in the end.

LRMHamilton In reply to GenieMiller [2009-05-09 22:58:19 +0000 UTC]

I really wish they would have added more about the children, general reproduction methods, and society.

My theory is that the solider are the only ones produced from the machine. With only the Queen contributing they are lacking full set of DNA hence why they are kind of stupid.

I think the other male wraiths and queen are products of the old fashion methods that are still used by most species. With there life spans really you wouldn't want to reproduce like mad so having one female kind of keeps there numbers in check. Although it does mess with the available gen pool in the long run.
