Ohmygosh he's so cute.

Mealworms... when I was a kid, it was a school project to raise some mealworms. Mine lived in an old Coffeemate jar. That was when they were made of glass. The Coffeemate jars, that is. Not the mealworms.

GeodeLady In reply to Regen [2006-06-05 04:47:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks

How cool.....I have been thinking about raising my own as it never fails when we buy a package from the pet store half of them are dead We tried to see if he would eat the dead ones and he ate one then promptly it back up

Regen In reply to GeodeLady [2006-06-07 18:33:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh, what a pleasant sight that must have been!

It's funny... even something like 30 years later *looks around to see if anyone else saw that* I can still remember the smell of the mealworm jar. Sweet, slightly rotted apples and something else I could never place.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GeodeLady In reply to Regen [2006-06-07 18:51:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it was pleasant alright... I went to the pet store (its a weekly visit) to buy crickets for the snake and lizard and they asked if I needed the mealworms. I said "you know what!! I don't think so cause the last three times I bought them half of them were dead by the next day and he won't eat them dead we tried" then I explained about watching him puking them back up....so because I am in there every week (and because we bought our baby from them) they gave me a free package of mealworms. Which was very cool and completely unexpected and they were nice healthy buggers think maybe I need to switch which day I go in. Still thinking about raising our own.

Regen In reply to GeodeLady [2006-06-07 19:50:41 +0000 UTC]

Yay for free mealworms! That's very cool that they did that. Good customer service.

If you raise your own, it could also be an educational experience for your children.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GeodeLady In reply to Regen [2006-06-07 20:09:21 +0000 UTC]

Agree very educational...thinking about getting a 5 gallon aquarium and a screened lid (the lid so no unwanted buggies decide to join in ) I need to go find the site that told how to raise your own

Regen In reply to GeodeLady [2006-06-07 20:30:25 +0000 UTC]

I found it! [link]

Screens are important! Nothing propels me out of bed faster than unexpected bedfellows wriggling across my face in a darkened room!

Aww you are a doll thank you looks easy enough think I will do it

Omg!! right!!! I have been really creeped out lately....poor Dave got a shirt out of the closet a couple weeks ago and about 15 minutes later he felt something and then I kid you not yelled (not like a girl though but almost ) He started freaking out and came over to me a low and behold what should I see but a scorpion crawling down his arm It had stung him three times in his armpit Scorpions tend to freak us out cause the ones in Arizona can be deadly...thankfully the ones here in Texas are not but they still hurt like a son-of-bitch. People say oh its no big deal their sting is like a bee sting not a comforting thought to me though as I am deathly allergic to bees. Anyways, I have been quite paranoid since then because of lack of rain tends to bring these guys indoors

Regen In reply to GeodeLady [2006-06-07 20:51:58 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!

And scary story. o.o I've never encountered a scorpion, but if I had one in my armpit, I'd be screaming - like a girl!

Where did these critters go before there were houses to take shelter in during the rain? I wonder! And that reminds me - I'm betting I don't get the hobo spiders here in my new place! Too bad, they were fun to photograph.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GeodeLady In reply to Regen [2006-06-07 21:05:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I be screaming too like a big ole sissy girl and running around like a loon They actually come inside due to lack of rain looking for the insects that come in to steal water.

Aww maybe they will follow you to your new place

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Regen In reply to GeodeLady [2006-06-07 21:13:32 +0000 UTC]

I'd be running around too, screaming, "GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF!"

And I don't want them following me here, really. Nor the ghosts that I had!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GeodeLady In reply to Regen [2006-06-07 21:23:00 +0000 UTC]

Ooh you had ghosts?? Like "boo" ghosts or just past ghost from bad experiences at the last place?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Regen In reply to GeodeLady [2006-06-07 21:32:03 +0000 UTC]

I had "boo" ghosts. People would get creeped out in my old place; only a few knew that someone had accidently killed himself in my bathroom two years before I moved in. I've had ghosts in my homes before, so I wasn't really afraid of them despite the fact that there seemed to be quite a few at the last place. One paced the floor outside my front door while I peered anxiously through the peek hole at the empty hallway, one used to swap my new keys with my old keys or just hide them (and once returned my keys to my jeans pocket which just about made me have a fit since I'd been wearing the jeans all day and there were no keys in them) and various other things happened. I told them before I left that they were not to follow either, and I believed they listened. Phew.

GeodeLady In reply to Regen [2006-06-07 21:38:37 +0000 UTC]

Very creepy stuff....I do hope they listened if my mom was still alive I would ask what to use to keep them out or at least in check She was quite knowledgeable of such things wish I had bothered to pay closer attention to the things she knew...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Regen In reply to GeodeLady [2006-06-09 17:30:54 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty knowledgeable about that sort of stuff too. I saw my first ghost when I was about six years old. My grandfather died and appeared in my room and told me he loved me and for me to be a good girl for my mum, and I've been fascinated by such stuff since then. Asking the spirits to leave usually works, and if not, explain to the spirit that they've passed on, and need to pass over. It has worked for me every time I've tried it.

I've got about a dozen ghost stories in my past. An interesting note is that my grandfather also visited my favourite aunt at that time, a common tie she and I discovered a few years ago.
