Description My first piece for my AP Art concentration. I'm trying to do women all over the world throughout history without coming off as a feminist.

I've actually been doing a lot for AP Art (first art class since 8th grade).. hopefully I'll be less lazy and upload more.

Anyhow, this girl is from the Rococo period in France. Think like Louis XIV through Marie Antoinette? Outfit and background were researched, but are completely original in design and therefore not super terribly historically accurate. Eh.

The wonky-ness of the background bothers me. I'm real real bad with interior and the straight lines/architecture type of thing.

Pose is from stock: =faestock 's [link]
Picture is mine, 2007.

Cheesy title made me laugh.

This is amazing! I love the attention to detail you put into the dress design...it's gorgeous & if a lady were wearing that back then, she wouldn't be out of place at a ball or at court with royalty. Well done!

Beautiful, but why not come off as feminist?

That sentence bothers me too. My guess is she had some bad experiences with tumblr feminists.

do you mind if I ask: who is your AP art teacher. I also have an Ap art teacher, and I wonder if it is the same.. I really need to get a scanner and upload some of my art that isnt from 4 years ago. lol
This picture is beautiful, although, when you dont full view it, it is rather hard to see her nose. may I suggest some extra shading there..?
i love it

geomexia In reply to illusorya [2008-06-08 15:11:15 +0000 UTC]

I started out in standard pencil, then inked it with microns. The main medium I used to color was prismacolor markers. I also used colored pencils and watercolor (gauche).

detail in this is stunning without swallowing up the pic too much, love the complementary colours and the soft folds of her gown - you manage to give things a certain weight that adds a sense of 3 dimentions to the peice, the curls in her hair are very impressive, i admire your dedication to finishing this!

Wow. This is lovely! We just finished studying the Rococo period in my Art History class, so it's still fresh in my mind to enjoy this!

One little thing I feel I should say, but I hope you don't take offence to it.
This looks more like from the Baroque period (like Palace at Versailles, particularly the bold blue on the staircase). The decorative guilding (gold), her dress and hair fashion tho' is spot on. I really hope I didn't tread on your toes there...

Still a very lovely piece.

Thanks for the kind words & urrh... correctifying? Plus just taking the time to write, that's truly fab.

That's reasuring! So what's the next period/place on the list?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

geomexia In reply to Choco-Kun [2007-11-07 23:58:14 +0000 UTC]

1800s (Meiji Restoration-ish) Japan is in the works. Hopefully it'll be finished by this coming Monday.
I'm doing a Geisha with something akin to fancy flintlock pistols.. which is, um, once again not really accurate or super common.. but eh, it looks spiffy.

The vengeful Geisha with flintlocks concept came first (stock art), then I'm just saying when pistols would be really available in Japan.. which is probably before Meiji, via the Dutch, & the Flintlock was definitely on its way out by the 1850s... but y'know, it looks fancy, so nyeh.

Beyond that I really want to go into tribal Africa. Ancient Greece, Egyptian, and Aztec is definitely on the list. India is also really appealing, though I'm not sure what time period I want to do.
