Ohhhhhh... UI see! I feel so silly now! That is just the bottom of the easel. I guess I did a poor job of cropping that out. I actually should have reposted the image from the photographer but I didn't catch that detail! It does not exist in the finished work.... thank you so much! And your comments are so detailed, I am so appreciative that you took time to look so closely!

Hi. I don't know much about horses, but you really captured the drama of the subject, and the sky, with your deft lighting and shading. Curious, though...is he jumping above a fence of some kind, the same color as himself?

Thank you... I am not quite sure what you are asking... but I will try to answer. The horse is rearing up on his hind legs and the picture is deliberately cropped to emphasize the muscles. The position of the head and neck should suggest this... perhaps I missed on this. But having you notice the lighting was quite complimentary as this was what I was after as well! Thanks so much!

I was refering to what looks like a slanted beam or fence rail at the bottom of the image. It seems unnecesary, adding an element of stability to an otherwise wild scene. And, you missed nothing in your depiction of the horse or the energy of the scene. I was just...ya know, puzzled by the thing at the bottom. Perhaps the image you posted is a close-up of a larger image, that shows a fence, with it's rails and posts?

Wow, I thought I had posted a reply to you early this morning! Maybe early onset of Alsheimers! I felt silly after I realized what you were referring to... I did the photo and when cropping the image, I failed to crop out the tray of the easel... I was going to repost the photographer's capture of my piece but by the time I got it back, I had received far more comments and attention than I ever believed I would... so I left the image as it was published. Thank you for really looking and commenting! It is very meaningful to take in such nice words after so much work!

I'm glad you're getting interest in your work. But, to be honest, I was inspired to search your gallery because of the wonderfull, simple "This is Me" photo you posted, which I saw when first logging in the other day. I read your caption, how you were hopefull in returning to your talent. As a relatively "older" deviant(I'm 52), your personal presentation touched me, and I'm hoping you do find the kind of satisfaction and success you seek. In my mind, you're taking advantage of what I percieve is the best reason to be here, to be a deviant artist. My best to you, Aakyra!

I was pleasntly surprised by your nice comment and your visit. I was flattered actually... so thank you so very much! I am (60) that's a big number to be tarting out, but I have huge faith that I am walking on the right path at the right time. I am chuckling because you endured my little gallery, but actually there is a path there that started some three years or maybe four years ago when I began to sand off the rust and oil the machinery of my art that was so long ago abandoned. Those first few years were full of humiliation at my pathetic attempts and dogged determination to get my game back. Now... I still have the determination, but I also have a little more confidence after having several wins at shows. I really don't know if I will ever be able to look at my work and say yes ... that's it, but I will keep trying until I can no longer try. It's between God and I, he was the giver of the gift and I am the prodigal child. So with God in my corner... despite my ability I cannot fail Mr Stardust! My name is Jill ... Aakyra was my first or second attempt to draw an Arabian Mare. Thank you again for your genuine self!

Thanks so much! The effect of light on a white color at night was a major part of what I wanted to evoke.

Thank you so much... I think the mane on a horse is a distinguishing trait... if you look at my art, the manes are all indiviually unique and beautiful. The references I choose are usually a result of my bing drawn to the beauty of the mane. Thanks so much again!

Thanks for your comment... the piece was really about showing a good deal of musculature on a white coat. This was challenging and required using many colors to suggest the play of light on the form of the horse to emphasize the muscles. I really appreciate that you noticed this aspect of my painting... as well as the fact that it was done in pastel..which is a very challenging medium for me. Thanks!
