This was done in pastel (Conte Crayons)19" x 24" on Canson 2 ply white vellum
The original photograph took my breath away, the waterfall effect of the mane, the incredible power of this beautiful quarter horse, the rippling muscles, the vibrant color of the coat! I loved every detail of the photograph and wanted very much to render it. It became a labor of love and I discovered the difficulty of creating detail and realism with pastels. I want to thank Jolee so very much for all I have gained through her kindness in giving me permission to use her photo as a reference!

Tsunami is actually a quarter horse named Princess. She lives in Kentucky... I loved the reference photo... the muscles and mane were what attracted me and the actual work was very, very, difficult, but the end result was worth it! Thanks!

Wow love the detail.
You make me want to take a stab at pastels. Though I doubt it will look anything close to this. Did you use soft or hard pastels? And do you have to fix it somehow since it's so chalky?

I use conte pastels on this piece along with nupastel and some rembrandt ... so it was a combination of hard and soft as is my new piece, STORM. Thanks for the wonderful words!

Thanks so much! I really struggled with this piece as it was my first ever pastel painting and pastels seemed to me to make it difficult to get the quality of realism I was after. But it seems that this pic is very well liked and placed in both shows I entered it in. After much time I am able to see a few good things in the piece, but it took a long, long time!

I'm not sure I can help you very much. I am quite new to the internet, and DA, and basically trying to figure out how to market myself as I go along. The only thing I could suggest is to appear in as many sites, like DA, as you can find.

Hi Marc... I listened to several tracks this am. Your music is new age to me. I like it but honestly would not buy the CD. I rarely go after new age ... had a few artists I liked, "Moodswings" "George Winston" ... but I commend you on this mega talent you possess!
