He is adorable and it didn't take him very long to find a home.

It didn't take him long to find a home. Most of the small dogs we get in are adopted fairly rapidly. It is great that you have rescued rather than purchased. All of mine are rescues also.

I am moving to Australia, pending all the endless paperwork..yick, and taking my Dusty boy with me. (his pic is in my gallery). No one wants cats and I just can't find him a good and loving home. It will be approximately 24 hour trip from the east coast to the final destination in Sydney, but I don't know what else to do. I hate to put him thru that but the alternative is a shelter or... something, and I just won't do that. I've been told I'm crazy, but I have no choice. I am not rich, but I took on the responsibility of taking care of him and his mom and so I have to so this. My mom is taking Mittsy, his mom, so I'm grateful for that.
I always encourage people to adopt from a shelter. I wish they would do away with puppymills and force people to spay their cats and dogs. I don't see that ever happening though, so good people like us will have to keep stepping in -- and there are a lot of good people out there! Thank God!
Take care, and keep up the wonderful work you do for our little furry friends

Are you taking him on the plane? The last trip I took a woman and her two children were taking their two cats back to The Netherlands. They had been in their carriers for quite a while already and still had a long way to go. They seemed to be doing fine however. She said they hated it but sort of zone out after a while.
That is a major change...moving to Australia. Is this a permanent move or just temporary.

The plan is 4-5 years. I was there for 5 months this year and it's very nice there. Australia is very much it's own, but also very "Americanized." So, it's not such a dramatic culture shock for me. As for coming back, it depends on the job market and economy....and what the BHO administration does to our healthcare system, etc. I fear the America we all know and love is being changed forever, and not for the better by our current president. I don't know what his agenda is, but I fear we will find out before his term is over. That will determine whether it is better financially to remain there or come back here.
As for the cat, I have been going thru soooooooo much paperwork and permits and this and that and I could just scream it's so complicated. Australia does not have rabies, so they are very strict. It has cost me a lot, more than I thought and I'm not done yet lol and going broke. I hope he is okay, it will be a lot for the little guy to go thru. He will be in the car for 2 hours or so prior to getting on the plane if all goes well, and sadly I can't even take him out of the cage once he's in because a govt. approved vet will have to seal the cage prior to going to the airport for security purposes. So can't even pet him, just thru the cage. Then it's 6 plus hours to California, connect, sit in cargo, and 14 hours in flight; and animals are the last to get off the plane. After that, quarantine people pick him up and he spends 30 days there. Fortunately, Australia's quarantine is very nice, probably the best of any country I've seen, so that is a relief. My friend lives less than an hour away, so he can go and say hello during that time. I'll bet you are sorry you commented, lol I'm writing a book here.
So, although it is do-able, it is a very involved process and something to think about for anyone reading this. Many people do it and all goes successfully, and will be worth it when all is said and done. But one mistake on the paperwork and they won't let the animal on the plane, so my nerves are shot to say the least.
