Description Bodie is an 1870's vintage ghost town in eastern California. It is preserved in a state of "arrested decay". The terrible winters at 8,000 in this arid climate have burnished the wood.

This is a fantastic shot!! My imagination is working overtime here because this is such a good capture. Gosh, you aren't only an expert in rocks...but wildlife and ghosttowns as well! I love it!! I would really like to know more about the history of this town.
Wonderful image...and it does give a lot of detail of the nature and character of the town and era. Such good work!!!

Thanks! You're in luck...my blogging and picture posting converge sometimes, and I blogged about the history of Bodie a week or two ago at [link] I found out that Bodie is actually our official state Gold Rush Ghost Town!

Thank you! Did you get shoots of the super big full moon the other night? We were clouded over and missed it!

I never seem to have enough time to get all the interesting angles on the old buildings!

Do they still let you enter the buildings?

Just a couple of them. Many are degraded to the point of being dangerous, but others have been "outfitted" with some of the artifacts of daily life, antiques that would otherwise be quickly stolen. Some buildings are used for the ranger residence, and a museum. I think the church may have been open, but not sure.

Bummer. When I was there you could walk freely through all of them...
