"God's sake, child, stop following me, I ain't a mother hen!"While Shanks is mostly a decent man, a hard worker, and a good person, it must be admitted that he is not a huge fan of either children or animals. They tend to get in the way of work. He'll tolerate them! And he admits that he likes the quiet, smaller ones so long as he doesn't have to deal with them for prolonged periods of time... but Marie is none of that.
To you Shanks gals! I just wanted to show you that he's a grouch. *laughs*
Also, picture is slightly unrealistic in terms of the comic, since he would've tossed Casey Jr. out of the train already, probably.
DONE FOR WEEK 2 OF THE ART CHALLENGE, the inspired one. And yet again, I have failed it seems in portraying anything past my style DX What inspiration I drew from Ktshy is the playfulness of her art, and a bit of the coloring style. Marie ended up looking so anime here DX Not very typical of me.

Its a very interesting piece that gives the feel of something right out of the story. Though you can't really tell where his pupils are facing.xD;; I have been wondering that since I looked at it. lol Like how you did the expression for the cat though, makes him seem like he's more human yet still animal at the same time.

Nice job, of course, and you got this done in record time (curse you!!! *shakes fist*) I love the expressions SO MUCH. The conjunction of *glower* *GLEE* and *meh* just ... they make me chortle!
I agree the black mouth looks like "WHAT the hey?" and is a bit shocking, I didn't find the black hands distracting though - I just felt they made that body gesture stand out deliberately ...
I agree the skirt does like a little ... odd. I don't really believe it's wrapping around her.
NICE job on the cat, frequently, cats end up looking like mini-dogs rather than cats. Although, if you want the cat to look chubby, his tummy won't sway in. Cat's fill out all over (they kind of inflate) but a lot of extra fat goes to the area between the rib cage and the pelvis, and just goes BLORP, and their belly hangs low and sways back and forth when they walk. (Freakin' HILARIOUS).
That is all I have to say.

Critique (well kinda...it is a bit intimidating...):
Okay so first off I am sure you have heard a lot thus far about your colored lines. I love colored lines but the fact that they aren't consistent all the way through is a bit bothersome to me. It isn't Marie's mouth but rather Shanks hands that are throwing me off. Just a thought.
Second thing. The gestalt of the piece seems off. It almost feels like each character is in their own individual picture. I don't really see them linked together. All three of them are looking off into different directions. I know Shanks is supposed to be glaring at Marie but because of his pupil size I can't really see that. What I would suggest is to make Shanks be glaring at Casey Jr. OR to have both Shanks and Marie looking at the him. I feel that those minor adjustments alone would bring a better balance to the piece and interaction between the characters.
Okay so now that you hate me I will tell you that 1)I absolutely love the character design and the clothing
2)You did a marvelous job with expressions and
3) The cat is the most adorable and annoyed critter I have ever seen. May I adopt him?

Shanks' hands was actually a mistake ahaha... totally not intentional, just so you know >.<
And yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the interaction. The embarrassing thing is that in the original sketch, Marie was looking up at Shanks and Shanks WAS looking at Casey Jr DX Don't ask me what happened. But yeah, Shanks' eye in general is bothering me.
And why would I hate you? D: It's not like you were all "EW THIS IS HORRIBLE, DIE DIE DIE HOW DARE YOU ATTEMPT ART!"

Believe me, I've had the blackmouth problem a lot, which is why I typically avoid coloring the lines... I usually end up having to draw it with like... the flesh line tones, but I don't like how it looks DX

Okay, here we go. Though you mostly used your way of drawing, the color choices indeed show influence. As far as making Marie look anime, I think that comes from the little eyelash flair and size of her irises. Their feet are a bit small in comparison to their hands, as far as I can tell. You also forgot to color Shanks' hand lines. Other then that, Nice job.

Well, the feet as far as I can tell are the right size--they're approximately the same length as the forearm. THough, with Marie, her feet were made intentionally small for the cartooning style.
And yeah, Shanks' hand lines ahahah I was waiting for someone to point that out.

I like the color scheme and the background, it is pretty simple but does it job very well!
I think the girls legs are a little bit small, or maybe that is what the skirt makes me believe XD

I really like this piece. I think the style works well with your own. (It almost reminds me of the old painty things you used to do.)
Only two things I really have to say...
First, I think that you should have made Shanks pupil a bit darker/bigger. Because half the time that I see it, his eyes are so narrowed it's giving him a zombie look.
Second is really just preference, but like the varying weight on the dark purple line/outline that you gave to Marie, but the one around shanks seems really heavy. Actually, I think when it comes down to it it comes to the dreaded foe, consistency.

Hhmm. The skirt looks a little too "paper-doll-ish." Like it's pasted on her waist or something. And her mouth could've had thinner lines; it looks dominant on her face.
The background, no matter how simple, really pleases the eye; nice choice of colors.
On form and proportion, I think it's well made. Though the cat looks a bit too round.

Though, with the mouth, I don't know if it's so much that it needs thinner lines than the fact that I kept the lines black ( you look around the picture you can tell I kept forgetting to color specific lines >.< ). Especially considering the fact that most of Marie's colors and lines are really light D: I'll just have to deal with that next time.
And I was actually trying to make Casey Jr. fat ahahaha... based partially off of my friend's cat Whiskey.

personally I prefer your usual style - the lines in this one are too thick for my taste but AWWWW Shanks is so weirdly cute! XDD I love the faces he makes X°
