Description La Torretta Pepoli is the smaller of the two castles in Erice, Sicily, Italy. The round turret, arched openings, and its backdrop of sheer rock and lush growth give it a definite beauty.
This ruined castle was originally built as hunting lodge and sits adjacent the larger Venus castle built by the Normans over the ruins of the ancient Temple of Venus Erycina.

The low land beyond the castle to the upper left isn't really a desert. It looks dry in June, but there is a rainy season here. Sicily has a strong agricultural economy.
