Description This simple church makes a striking image set in its mountainous, uncluttered surroundings. I took this near the town of Castelrotto in the South Tyrol region of Italy. German is mostly spoken in this area.

Yes, it's Tyrol. In Italy they spell it Tirol. Sudtirol is the south part.

What a lovely shot! Must have been quite late for such long shadows. Some apparent eastern influences on the church. Reminds me of many I've seen in Hungary. Nice!

Thank you for you kind comment. My camera (a 2MP Coolpix) recorded the time as about a quarter to five in early September. The onion shaped dome on the bell tower is typical for this whole area of Italy. I agree with you, it is reminiscent of eastern architecture.

Thank you for the nice comment. It's been six years but I remember being impressed with the simple beauty of this church in its setting. I remember tramping around in the field in order to get a pleasing composition.
