Theres one thing I lack. The steady hand. Nice piece though, saw it back when you first submitted it.

Ahh, yea I saw one of those on the GW website. What exactly was the process you used?

For the interior? Just painted all the buttons and stuff with a base colour, then washed it all over with brown ink. To get the shine I used the GW Ardcoat, which I'm not sure if they still sell.

Is GW Ardcoat like Gloss Varnish?

Thanks, the white I'm painting not looks real flat, so I'm hoping that this will make it look better.

Ok I get the rear door and gun, but how did you rig the top plates to open? Did you put a dab of green stuff the loop a little wire through that and the door hinge?

It was actually pretty tough, there was a tutorial on bolter and chainsword about it. What you do is you cut out the middle 2 pieces of the hinges, which normally have 4, then drill a tiny hole to turn it into a hinge. Grab a paperclip, and some even smaller wire, and wrap the small wire around it with a good inch on either side. Cut your paperclip long enough to span your hinge, then slide the coil onto it and between the two plastic pegs. drill a tiny hole into the top of the rhino beneath the hinges and slides the 2 extra ends through, give it a spin and bend it so it stays in place.

Very cool, you get extra points for creativity (more than usual) and I'll try that out on my next rhino.

For the majority of it, I used a basecoat of Tallaren Flesh, then a wash of Flesh Wash (an old ink, which is now unavailable unfortunately) then a sloapy repainting of Tallaren Flesh. For the console, I just went through my regular process for metal, and slapped a bunch of bold primary/secondary colours on the buttons.

Not bad, but I think what you are lacking is highlights. Your guys are a pretty dark colour so they tend to blend in with themselves alot. I saw one model with a bit of highlighting but you used white I think which was much too harsh. Try using something darker, like Codex Grey, or mixing that with a bit of black even. Highlighting helps to define where the edges of the model are as well as give it depth.

I don't know about your area, but some hobby stores may have them as well. If you can't find GW paints, you can use other brands, go check out this guys blog [link] he uses mostly non GW paints.

very awesome rhino, it's a shame theres no mud and scratches, you probably have the skills to really give it just that right touch of battlewear.
