Description
Standing in the shadow of belief
Hiding under the wings of old age
Young believers, glowing in the sun of god
When they grow older they will remember that time
The time they felt his presence for the first time
That time will change their life for all eternity

****

Take a look at the B&W version --> [link]
I feel there is a huge difference between the two, but each is important in each own way. I would love to know your opinion.

Taken during "Birkat Hachama" (Blessing of the sun) in Bnei Brak, Israel. "Birkat Hachama" is a very special prayer taken once every 28 years, when the sun is exactly in the same position it was when the universe was born. It is believed that this is the date the Massiach will come on that date. This year (2009) it also happened on Passover and it's only the third time in History it happens (passover night with the location of the sun). It was a very special event.

This picture is taken on a terrace, where the women and small children saw the event. It is forbidden for them to be with the men at the prayer.

wonderful! wow this hit me like a frying pan to the face! im serous! this shot is so utterly beautiful to me in SO many ways!
the black and white is exquisite, the contrast is perfect and its as powerful as ever e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />
i do like the color version more because the colors are so vibrate yet dull. i can feel this loveliness and feelings of being forgotten but at the same time the two girls together almost give me a sense of hope and wonder, the looks on their faces the way the smaller one is standing slightly behind being protected almost, i like her eyes.
anyhow the quality and in general vibe of this photo reminds me of all the forgotten beauty in this world. its wonderful!

The older child is actually a boy (not sure why everyone seems to think he's a girl, poor kid).
Not the biggest deal, and I know this is an old critique

First off, I am quite fair to judge Drawings and photo's because i have an open mind to anything and everything.

But i do try to write a very opinionated and descriptive Critique about the piece i am talking about. I hope I do well e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

-------

I didn't even click the picture into full view when i had faved this photograph, just from afar the colors and image had caught my attention that pleased my eyes and mind and i had automatically dragged it into my Favorites and to me that says alot.

In full view the colors are beautiful, the lighting is spectacular, giving it a real peaceful, hopeful kind of light...a church like feeling.

The two adorable kids just ad onto the impact, not only is the picture itself amazing, but the kids put the whole picture together, to be young and to believe in something and be hopeful.
The lil boy who is looking straight at the camera is situated perfectly in the light, i love that. I do keep wishing that the little girl behind was looking more toward the camera, that is the only thing i see that you would call "negative" i suppose that i would say about the picture.

Other than that a simply greta picture with both great visuality of color and brightness and what's always important in a picture. A meaning.

Excellent shot!

I like very much the view of the children and their expressions captured in time, straight at them. Their eyes are filled with wonder, you captured this perfectly. The streams of light flooding the area and the mostly dark colors really make their faces stand out. But the hints of color add depth that the black and white doesn't (at least to me), so I prefer the color version of this. There is no doubt this is a serious moment in time, your explanation is wonderfully done... "glowing in the sun of God"... priceless. Beautifully worded, my thanks to you.

I like the way you have caught the rays of light between the adults within this group, they enhance the innocence of the children and show their stature, the way the younger is stood behind the elder child adds to the whole image.

As most children who do not know of such matters and decide to look at something else that interests them has also been caught by the fact all the adults are facing the other way. And for some reason I am taken by the way the child is holding her hands, its a very adult stance.

As for the editing, the subdued colours add to this, bleached out to a point were they do not detract from the image, I have seen the black and white version and although its good this is much better, it has a more human touch to it, I find I am drawn to the dust speckles floating in the light.

For me the whole ambiance simply works well, you have managed to capture the innocence of childhood in this, its not such a simple image, its complex and has much to look at, bravo.

This is a profound piece. The boy in foreground has a question. It is more then just a general curiosity, there is a definite and possibly serious thing he wants to know. Perhaps he doesn't have the words to use yet but the question is there. I love the idea that there is something that has these children's attention and none of the adults are looking in their direction. The idea that the world of a child and the world of the adult are so distinct and yet share the same space and time. The light also as though it is coming directly from G-d and seeking out the children by reaching past the adults. I also like the combination of the theme of the prayer with the focus on the children. It is a complete remembrance of when the world was young. quite breathtaking.

I absolutely love this photograph!
Very powerful, and spiritual.
It is kind of eerie as well, with the really strong contrast, but I think you played it up pretty well.
Definitely a "Decisive Moment".

What I found kind of amusing is that, a lot of people think that the the two children are girls ...but...since most of them probably don't have any Jewish background....I would imagine myself thinking that they might be girls too.

I agree with you, both color and bw bring their own qualities to the table. I personally love the blue cast from the light. The cloudiness in the light gives it an old time feel.

Your 'eople' shots are usually very candid and honest, gilad - which is why I think they're among your best. This is no exception; I love the lighting, but it all exists to accentuate the impact of the two young girls. Really, really good.
