Description This was taken at Kings Canyon, in central Australia.

This was a beautiful walk. It was along the top of the canyon ridge. However, that meant you had to get onto the ridge. It took 10 minutes, climbing rough stairs almost sheer vertically to get up there. I felt like I was dying on the way up; it was a fairly difficult (read: exhausting) climb. But not so difficult that children and retires can't do it (of which there were many of the latter). But upon reaching the top, that 10 minutes of hell was worth it 1000 times over.

To be honest, I much preferred Kings Canyon to Uluru. I understand that Uluru has spiritual significance to the local Aboriginals, but the rules in place do restrict the ability to truly connect with it. At Kings Canyon though, you can explore a lot more, and only parts of it have spiritual significance, which means access is far better. And for me, without access, I cannot get the feel of a place, which prevents my ability to connect with it. All of that is to say, that while Uluru is impressive (no amount of tourism can hide that), I think a part of me much prefers Kings Canyon.

In my upcoming central Australia photos it is quite clear that I like lots of sky in my photos. However, as the sky is rarely the point of interest, I'm not submitting under the 'sky' category, but mostly landscape.

bravo! Great example of how better nature pictures look when they are not edited (I hope it isn't?) Beautiful.

Thank you. And yes, this piece is unedited. Though there is a temptation to over-saturate the colours to make them 'op', I think the fact you know this is completely natural makes the colours (though somewhat bland compared to the paintings and advertising we are surrounded by) very impressive.

Lovely colours. Also great simplicity, works well here!

Thank you. It can be difficult to get the beautiful colours across with the glare and harshness of the environment. I'm glad you enjoyed.

Try it a bit darker with some more contrast and will take a lot more effect!

Maybe. But there is something special about being able to say 'this is unedited, with natural colours'. That's not to say that editing is a bad thing (I do do it), but sometimes a natural image can really show off a place.

But being a fan of contrast (both in black and white, and colour) I'll have a bit of a fiddle and see how it comes up. It is a lot flatter than I remember. Thanks for the comment.

Well, mainly that's correct what you said, but to adjust the luminosity and/or contrast ist just nothing different as if you had chosen another aperture value (ISO...) for example.
Going into detail and editing colours and parts is another thing..

Welcome!

Thank you for the comment. I find with colours such as this, anything but simple gets far too messy and cluttered.

I know it looks good, but I can't help but be disappointed. It looked so much better, far more colourful and bold when I was actually there. Either something that amazing cannot be captured on film (memory stick, whatever), or I have an extremely long way to go. But thank you, it was a toss up while I was there if the shot would even work, the sun glare at 9:30 in the morning was astounding.

I know what you mean... It's not easy to capture what the eye really sees!

Maybe you can try to use a circular polarizing filter in the future... It can help to get punchier colours sometimes...

Poor student. I'm working on convincing my photo-mad dad though. I'll keep it in mind.

Wow! Thats awesome. Having a lot of sky really adds to it. I'm not one for the outback, but I love this!
