Description Among the ancient ruins and spacecraft graveyards many are the times engines and reactors have been found still functioning, active and pumping near-endless energy for possibly centuries. In every world they’re found, these sites are inherently swarmed with a breed of communal creature xenobiologists have dubbed Isl.  Somehow, the Isl biology is capable of metabolizing this energy, turning it into a key element of their diet and lifecycle. To this end they raise enormous hives of ceramic and sculpted metal around the source for the community to feed off and thrive, and will defend them with impressive zeal.  Any and all research teams sent to their nests to investigate the reactors are violently repelled, and attempts to simply divert the flow of energy to a different point results in the entire hive going on a murderous rampage

Aside from this, the Isl appear disinterested in the world beyond their territory and have never been seen going out of their way to attack sentients, provided they keep their distance from the hive
