Description
Sometimes I need to make new versions of characters that are already in the game. These two are variants of the Morroval, which is a succubus. Instead of a screenshot paintover- Which usually turns out hideous- I decided to just paint them from scratch.I believe the original concept was by Jeff Murchie.

Oh, you knew these may have been based on theΒ The Silmarillion'sΒ take on vampires? Β I only heard about that by looking on the LOTRO wiki.

Although even the silmarillion doesn't explained the tolienverse vampires...
Except Sauroniops has a vampire servant and Sauroniops himself turned to a vampire for a decade

Damn these girls are beautiful. It's that fine balance between seductive and monstrous that I love.
The one on the left has pieces of her clothing going through her wing membrane: a detail most would never notice. And veins, veins in the wings are too often ignored.
Everything about them is just awesome: the wings, hands, feet, and of course their more human bits.
I really want them to be playable in Monster Play. So many possibilities for different appearances and unique abilities.
I kind of questioned you calling them succubi though: they never really make any attempts to seduce anyone, as far as I know.

I agree completely, except for the part about calling the succubi. Β Considering the game's label, I don't think we'd see them actively doing it. Β As for a mesmerizing spell or some such (I haven't encountered their in-game equivalent yet)...well, the original tales they only visited sleeping people at night and held them paralyzed, not mesmerized/seduced, while they fed off of them. Β Succubi as seductive monster-women is probably just as recent a creation as vampires with sexual magnetism. Β Before they were just night rapist demons that held their victims paralyzed and in fear (at least victims reported fear). Β I read something that posited the succubi/incubi myths were likely started by a time that believed more in evil spirits and used them to explain moments when they woke from sleep just enough to be aware, but not enough to shake the chemical responsible for holding you still (paralyzed) while dreaming. Β Combine that with the natural occurence of erotic dreams humans occasionally have and you get evil, invisible demons that hold you paralyzed (the scary part) while they rape you.
I return to...none of which is appropriate to show happening in a game that's not strictly for adults XD
I have 0 problem with them being called succubi, though to me they look like a more bat-like form of harpies (which is still really cool).

I saw the right one fighting in Angmar once. Mocherin (the green/purple boss in one of the quests) was sooo pretty. <3 The left one is gorgeous!

The most beautiful monsters in the game. I guess you didn't draw the males? They are pretty ugly by comparison. I think there is a bat monster called Thuringwethil in the Silmarillion who worked for Morgoth. Turbine probably based it on that.

Where the bleepity-bleep are these found in Tolkien lore? O.o Nicely drawn, though. Those lower legs are a nice, frightening touch.

variants are cheap ways to get more game assets out of a single model. It can be more time consuming/expensive to redo the entire model, so these are simply repaints of the same model. A quick way for game artists to get cheap variation(especially important for MMOs).

The males are called Morvul. They're worse than the females because they suck the power out of you!

Oh, those are both so gorgeous! I like that you change the clothes too, instead of just testing color schemes. (: My favorite is the one on the left - both her colors (I love cool grays and blues) and clothing (her wrist thing going through the hole in her wings? Awesome!). Great job!

You have a great piece here. Nice job on the rendering. She looks very life like. I was wondering though, concept wise, is she supposed to be able to fly? I thought to my self wile looking at her "those wings look a bit skimpy to keep her in the air."
