8x10 inch technical pen drawing on paper I made specifically for this series. Paper is 100% abaca fibers with seashell and mica flake inclusions.The drawing is of a shell I found at the beach that had a small piece of coral growing on it. The size of the actual shell is about 1 inch diameter.

So tactile and beautiful...this is really fun to experience...the enjoyment must increase when seeing it in raking light, where all the textures come alive. Just like Japanese woodblock prints, the paper and surface texture plays an important role. I like it very much!

Your handmade paper to me resembles sand, I love the texture of your drawing as well making it really come to life, as if we were looking at a piece of beach!!

Thankies! The paper has sand and crushed shells in it, which gives it it's beach appearance. what better to draw sea life on ?

Beautifully drawn on really interesting and complementary paper. It reminds me of the pictures in my Dover book of 19th century illustrations of animals. I was amazed when I saw that it was done with stippling. Absolutely wonderful.

Thanks. I try to really make the paper part of the piece, rather than having a drawing that covers the paper. I mean I could really draw on just about anything, so I try to be specific to give more info on my subject.

In the smaller view this looks like an exposed fossil given a contrast to reveal the texture, in the full view it looks like a very slow pain... very nice marriage of paper and drawing. I like the completeness, knowing you made the paper first. It's very artisan and rich in that way. To further effect you could pull a turkey feather and drain a squid...
I love how you can look at it up close and farther away and see rich detail each way. That's my favorite kind of art.

Hey, smelly and flavorful might be good qualities in an ink if you wanted to try some combination of traditional art and performance art. It might not last forever but those who experience it will remember the taste for the rest of their lives. That's a nice form of archiving, I'd think.

I think no one can appreciate enough the quality of your work. First, the paper must have took you a while; second, the dots that makes up the picture keep me wondering if you're crippled from doing it, lol. These two elements, more so for the image, goes hand in hand second to perfectly. Your style is unmatched my friend. Ok hee comes the meanie part. I would say to some extent that the threedeeness was lost in translation to the dots. ok could be me, but you could look at the shell and notice that areas are much darker, therefore to recreate this you would need to apply a larger contrast in these certain areas. Well that's all. You're a super cool artist and your gallery is brilliant. Well done and keep it up.

Thanks alot! I agree with your criticism "threedeeness was lost in translation to the dots". I think it's really hard to imply a certain texture when the stipple itself is a texture. Plus it's very difficult to work because the image starts up slowly and you can only work on a small area at time. I'm working on several other drawings at time now, so I think I'm getting much better.
So far I'm not completely crippled, but I have murdered a few micron pens lol. Thanks for your super awesome comment!
