I actually finished this nearly a month ago, as you can see by the date in the corner, but it was at my teacher's house for various reasons for four weeks. xDMy mother wanted me to do a picture of a person, so my teacher made me go through her magazine pages. I found this. She actually wanted to take out the page on the reverse side, but I wanted to do this because it's so bizarre. It's a schnazzed-up guy in a suit and fedora, on skis, in the middle of the street. It said "suit yourself" on the page.
This is quite possibly the best picture I've ever done.

This brings back good memories of... well, two weeks ago actually. What paper and (pencil?) did you use? Because this is quite some texture you have going on here. I really like the overall feel of this... It's very soft and pleasant to look at. The proportions seem right (though, coming from a person who doesn't really draw people). GREAT work on the shine on the apparel; I really appreciate that realistic shine on his shoes, the wrinkles in his pants, and the cushiness of his scarf.
I like this guy's outfit in general! He seems sorta old fashioned, sort of out of place (I would have done a double take if I saw this guy coming down the mountain!) compared to the colorful, crazy-hatted people I'm used to seeing on the slopes. But he looks like he's having a great, leisurely time. Again, with the feel of this drawing, this is how I want to feel when I ski.
Now, depending on what you were going for... If you've aimed to make it a soft drawing with everything sort of melding into each other in the light, then SPOT ON. This, to me, feels like a 'memory.' If that makes any sense.
If you wanted the skier to pop out more, then I would suggest making the edges more defined and the drawing less 'fuzzy.' Again, it depends on what you were going for.
Otherwise, the only other thing I would say is to move the skier just a tad bit off center. Sort of like this photograph: [link] to convey a greater sense of movement. More space. I've only ever heard of this in terms of photography but I'm sure it can be applied to drawings as well: in terms of composition, it sometimes does more for the piece when the subject is off center.
I see a little dab of what looks to me like a pine tree in the upper left. And some smudges of trees to the right of that. I really like what you did there! If you wanted to you could expand even more on the background. But overall I think what you have is solid!

I don't quite remember what kind of paper this was on, but I used charcoal pencils.
I actually used a photo from a magazine as a reference for this. I wanted to draw it because the guy's clothes were so bizarre and he looks so carefree, especially in that setting.
Thank you for those tips with composition. I'm trying to improve that, and it's always helpful to have someone give me some pointers.

June taught me how to draw like this. She doesn't like anime, because it gives kids a really bad idea about proportion. In fact, she hates it.
