Description First of all, let me say the WWII one is WAY HEAVIER. The quality actually isn't too far off, but the WWII one is like pure wool. The postwar one is extremely light in comparison.

Both feature a bullseye in the front, but the Bundeswehr one has dropped the eagle with nothing to replace it. The bullseye on the WWII one is a lot nicer and bulbous, whilst the postwar one is completely flat.

For whatever reason the postwar one earned piping, something only officers and higher had during WWII. Apparently it was added because American caps had piping there at the time, so the Germans got it during the American influenced West German era.

As always, these items are displayed for their educational and historical value only. Full disclaimer: grand-lobster-king.deviantart.…

Very nice. I've only been able to find the post-war ones I'm afraid. I work with an elderly gentleman who served in the Luftwaffe flying F-86 Sabers and he stated that his belief is the piping was added due to the U.S. military having piping on their side caps when they began their occupation of Germany.
