Description
I recently commissioned to do a piece showing another member of the Young Americans along with Blackfish, Brain Damage, Shield, Jade Phoenixand High Voltage: Weave. He's also a teenage superhero for a "retro" game set in 1987. It definitely had a strong X-Men vibe in terms of the players being mutants with superpowers in a world that feared and loathed them. He did fantastic and speedy work, and I thank him for doing this awesome commission. Weave originally has fabrikinesis, but the rebuild of him for the current story arc has him as a teleporter to make him more unique in the group (as there was considerable overlap with the original build).

Background/History: Christopher “Chris” Bell is the son of a decorated marine injured in battle against the Cubans at Grenada and his stay-at-home wife. He was born in and grew up in San Angelo, California but his father decided to move to his family home in Norfolk, Virginia in 1986 after his parents divorced (due to his mother’s affair and father’s drunken abuse). When he was 16 years old (born in 1971, so he’s 22 as of 1993), Chris was accepted into the prestigious Norfolk Preparatory Academy after Admiral William “Bill” McNabb submitted a letter on his behalf. Chris discovered a talent for the performing arts over the years - plus he had an eye for fashion and tailoring as well.
Chris discovered his mutant powers when he was enduring an unpleasant phone conversation with his father who was berating him not to be a “faggot” like his late Uncle Frank (who died from AIDS in 1985). He wished that he were at home with his mother and suddenly appeared in his room at her house. He realized that he could teleport from place to place. Chris continued to secretly hone his skills in the year before he attended Norfolk Prep, and even picked up some boxing skills from his older brother. He concealed his secret from his parents and siblings, until fate decided otherwise.
Shortly after he began attending the new school, he discovered that there were other students there with similar abilities. They formed an ad-hoc super-team, which became the state-sanctioned super-team known as the Young Americans. Chris was forced to “come out” to his family after VIPER attempted to kidnap his sister due to her precognitive abilities. On top of that, he even “came out” to his teammates and the public by revealing that he was gay at a press conference for the AIDS quilt in Federal City. The team’s final mission featured a joint mission with the military against VIPER at Bohemian Grove, and the team went their separate ways as the year 1987 ended.
He was invited to attend a prestigious university in San Angelo, California once his high school studies were complete, and he attended the school graduating with degrees in fashion design and theater. He set off for New York City, after several Broadway and fashion firms gave him lucrative job offers. He still continues his superheroics while maintaining a secret identity to protect his family.
Personality: Weave is outspokenly liberal, championing LGBTQ rights and other progressive causes. He’s adamant against using lethal force, having a hatred of killing and violence. He gets triggered into a violent rage, however, when he sees acts of bigotry and bullying/abuse due to childhood and teenage traumas. He gets along best with Shield and Brain Damage, who are the most tolerant of the team- and clashes often with High Voltage due to their differing politics and moral codes.
Powers/Tactics: Weave uses his teleportation powers to move easily around the battlefield. He starts off with either teleportation boxing against groups of foes or teleportation sucker punch against the toughest foe. He will grab targets and aport them around, or blink teleport to draw fire.
Appearance: Chris stands at 5’11” and 182 lbs, with a trim build and somewhat effeminate, pretty-boy features. He has brown hair and eyes, and has his right ear pierced, dressing in the latest fashions. As Weave, he wears a dove-grey, "cassock"-style coat with rainbow-colored trim and matching masquerade mask and fedora.
