Description This piece evolved way past its original plan. I was sitting at 's house just doing an artjam with her and . I got bored doing figure studies and started playing with character creation. After several iterations, the sketch for this tree spirit came out. He was deemed "epic" by all of the others in the house, so I decided that I needed to paint him up.

suggested that he looked like he was bringing spring, since he was leafy only on his back-half.

So it started out just filling in the form with some normal watercolor, then fleshing him out with gouache. I figured that I would use acrylic to get his glowing orb thing on his antler-staff. I need to remember to not add acrylic to my watercolor/gouache pieces in large amounts. I think the heavier texture detracts from the piece. But it begged a background, so I returned to 's suggestion of transitioning winter to spring.

When my husband came home, he saw the painting and said: "Oh cool! He's bringing spring. And I can't spend too much time looking at his face, it freaks me out!" So I guess that my intention is well-played here.

All in all, I'm really pleased with this piece. I can see more finished works in watercolor and gouache in my future, it's a satisfying mixed media combination to work with!
