Description the two figures in this image are old school gregoriousone. They were sampled from an old journal from around 1993ish.
I also experimented more with the channels and pasting different textures and bits into specific channels. quite fun actually.

(i still wish dA had that 'tra-digital' category... sigh.)

thanks.. i primarily use Photoshop CS2. I do create some textures and brushstrokes in Painter IX, and of course things i scan and or photograph...

how do i do all this? layers layers layers.

I have "never" seen such great result, such quality dark colors,
layered together and such abstract peices like the ones in your album!
Whats seriously surprising for me is they are all worked on "layers" ?
OMG! ***********how?!

gregoriousone In reply to HaroosLily [2007-09-19 06:29:05 +0000 UTC]

the answer i gave you i suppose was overly simplistic.... I work with photoshop in a very painterly fashion-- the way i combing different layers and elements and tweak here and there.

you weren't being a nag at all.. It's just that it's hard to describe how I work in photoshop-- one thing i've noticed is that everyone finds their own way with the program-- my style and the way that I assemble things is done in a more painterly fashion.

I tried doing what you do, well, just experimenting.
Heh...I couldnt even come no where close to what masterpieces
you'v come u p with.

Im deeply in awe with your work.
This is unique and this i s extreme creativity of yours.

Im a fan, can you tell me how to have your gallery added to my favorites?
Since, Im new to deviantart!?

gregoriousone In reply to HaroosLily [2007-09-19 22:37:03 +0000 UTC]

well with anything it takes practise.. it took a lot of experimenting and playing around with photoshop to finally figure out how to make it a tool instead of having it do the work for me.
I also have a huge library of source material that i use to give my work the visual texture that it has.
there is no way to add my entire gallery to your favourites.. well you could but you would have to face each one.... however you can put me on your deviant watch list so you my new uploads will appear in your devwatch tab.

and you can always click the fave button on the images that you really like.

thanks for the kind words and keep creating and experimenting and developing your creative language.

man i am fuckin' lovin' your work!!!
i thought it was ALL traditional collage and/or
found object!! i'm almost disappointed that it's
not! heh. but i love it all the same!!
excellant stuff!!

gregoriousone In reply to dholms [2006-10-07 14:14:22 +0000 UTC]

thanks for the kind and exuberant words
it might not be 'traditional' collage-- but it does use a lot of found objects and ephemera along with some of my own photography. fredfree summed up my work best he calls its 'tra-digital'

you've got a great sensibility with colour. the colours just pop but not in a tacky or excessive way.

I love the oval splotches.

your layering is always such a pleasure to look at.

wow, i love the complexity of the sky(?). so many intricacies. not really solid on the figures though... i guess i just enjoy your traditional 1950's imagery. not that i'm trying to pigeonhole you here, i know style is an evolving thing. anyhow, great work.

sure go ahead and call it a sky. why not. just started out as a background and evolved into this.
I tried putting some 50's ish imagery in this one and it just didnt look right.
