Description

Earlier this year (2019) a husky/malamute pup appeared in a Welsh village I often drive through, over the year she has grown into a beautiful 'salt and pepper' hound and it has been a joy each time to see her trotting happily along with her owner. I had thought about stopping to meet them from time to time as my own husky Maxie is a total flirt with females, on Hallowe'en night I finaly met her...

*The following will be hard to read for some*

As I was driving though the village with my two huskies in the night-time gloom ahead I spotted a dog shape with some Trick-or-treaters on the sidewalk, to my horror it lept out into the road where between me and it was a large van which slammed it's breaks on as the dog tried to leap back out of the way but it was too late and they collided.

As they impacted in the light of the van I could clearly see it was the beautiful husky.

She got up from the road as the van drove off and painfully made her way towards my vehicle collapsing half way.

This had all happened in a handfull of seconds.

I came to a stop, thumped the hazard lights on and scrambled from my vehicle to get to her. She was trying to get up and in distress so I sat on the road infront of her, softly talking, gently stroking her neck and took my fleece off laying it over her. She settled down and I waited for her owner.

It took several minutes for him to appear and within a matter of moments of his kneeling by her she passed away, he picked her up and carried her limp body home.

I never found out her actual name so for the purposes of the image I've used "Pepper".

She had a short life that ended tragically but it was a life lived of love and joy judging by the the way she had once happily and lightly trotted around beside her owner.
