Mars and its movements over the night sky has been recorded by astronomers of Ancient Egypt, Babylon and Greece. It appears bright red due to light refraction. The ancient Chinese called it “fire star”. It´s actually a dull, rusty brown. Media and artists tend to colour enhance photos to fit our expectations . In many aspects Mars is very similar to Earth which explains the massive attention it has gathered since the beginning of the space age. But as of 2016 only half of the 55 Mars missions have been successful. The search for life has been in vain so far, making Mars the only planet solely inhabited by robots.
