Description
Now that the weather has warmed and the days are lengthening, I finally brought our little girl down to see the place by the river where my father and all the fathers before him had come to fish and clam. Many a wholesome meal had been drawn from that river, or so my father had said. The waters, he said, were clean and the clams were sweet and succulent back then.

As I recounted these things aloud to our little gal, she took it all in very seriously, but after a few moments, a frown began to form across her tiny features like an enormous storm cloud hugging a ridge top. Normally, I would have simply smiled and let the questions wait for another time, but looking down into her shining eyes and then shifting my gaze to the greenish brown murk at our feet, I couldn't help but frown also...
