Description    I've noticed that there are a lot of people and stamps complaining about people "comparing" their characters to other characters, often stating that it's "rude" or "wrong".

This, however, simply isn't true.

Comparison is defined as "the act or instance of comparing", not "telling an artist they're a ripoff/thief."
Many of the people against "comparisons" are like the people against "critiques"- some heathen with nothing better to do probably came to their page and used the word as a variant of "it's just my opinion" to excuse their poor behavior.
As a result, the victim mistakenly concludes that "comparisons" are bad, when the real problem was trolling/false accusations of theft.

Further, like my "similar stamp", saying that a character looks a little like/reminds you of/feels similar to another is NOT the same thing as saying it's a ripoff/copy/stolen and/or you "stole the idea".

Speaking of "stealing ideas", there is actually NO SUCH THING.
Only the expression of the idea, such as in writing it down or drawing it, can be copyrighted- not the idea itself.
Thus, two people could have the idea "cat-fish", and never have to worry about each other, so long as their expression of that idea is different.

A comparison does NOT make your character less unique, special, or creative either.
Once again, "similar to" does not mean "identical"- even if two characters have a similar appearance, their characterization can be entirely different- or vice-versa.

If someone IS accusing you of theft/copying/"stealing ideas, you do have the right to be angry at your accuser- but "banning comparisons" isn't the answer.
Punishing multiple users for the acts of one idiot isn't fair- not to mention yelling at random strangers for something that isn't even wrong does absolutely NOTHING to the whoever harassed you.
If someone is harassing you, you should block and report THEM- not put up a policy that won't solve the actual problem.

Comparisons can actually be interesting to see sometimes.

Examples from my own gallery(with links to the piece/character I am talking about below each point):

- Kai looks similar to Aichi Sendou from Cardfight Vanguard.

- Felix looks a little bit like the old cartoon Felix the Cat and his eyes are a bit like Jiji's from Kiki's Delivery Service.

- Suze's hairstyle is a variation of a very common style in a lot of anime.

- Both the Candycorn and Eqlet lines of Spirit Creatures look like My Little Ponies

- The Magilet line look like the pokemon Mismagius, especially when they're purple.

- Fledermaus looks similar to Pikachu.

I wouldn't mind anyone pointing out comparisons like these, or any of the many other similarities, because it can make for interesting discussion, as opposed to chainmail saying imma 'bout to die in seven days.

Rude and nasty comments however, be they false claims of theft or otherwise, I would definitely flag and most likely report, as those do NOT benefit me, nor anyone else.

In short, comparisons don't cause any harm and are NOT the same thing as accusations of theft, and thus, should not be treated the same way.

If you get a comparison, don't freak out on the commenter- go see the point of comparison yourself.
It could be interesting, and if worst comes to worst and you don't get it, you can just say you don't get it.
There's no need to be rude. ^  ^

I agree it's not wrong, but it does make (some) people feel bad or annoyed.
