As many of you lot should know by now, I'm pretty much FASCINATED by vampire fiction, and no other manifestation from my youth has had a greater impact on my work over the years than the excellent World of Darkness roleplay games, and in particular Vampire: the Masquerade. And recently I found and joined up with , which had me getting all nostalgic again ...

Among other things it got me resurrecting old player characters (in some cases, of course, reworking them given some of them have been somewhat cannibalised for my Nightlife Mythos ... but THIS character has actually made it through pretty much UNSCATHED ...

Grace is a (now) eight year undead Sabbat Toreador based in the USA, her activities around the time I used to play her mainly focusing around the Contested territory of New York. She's not at all like your typical Toreador - this girl Neonate was mass-Embraced in the lead-up to a major incursion effort, intended mostly just as cannon-fodder, but somehow she managed not only to be the sole survivor of the mission, but also came home with the already-decomposing head of a major elder, as well as a hefty dose of "diablerised" blood supercharging her system. Needless to say she took her subsequent comrades very mush by surprise, and has continued to do so ever since. Indeed as I played her her story got pretty scary epic ...

She really isn't typical at all. She was a little nuts before her Embrace, but after being essentially RAPED into vampire-hood, brained with a shovel and then buried "alive" over the course of her Change, it's safe to say the last vestiges of her sanity are no more than a distant memory. And yet, in her extreme craziness there's a weird kind of calm and clarity, not least the fact that she's a virtual KILLING MACHINE now thanks to high levels of Celerity (super-speed and lightning reflexes) and Auspex (basically ESP/empathic talents), not to mention scary innate talents with guns and blades ... and a COMPLETE lack of anything even remotely resembling a conscience. Indeed this is where he Toreador-borne artistic obsession really comes in - she's a preternaturally skilled killer, and takes great pride and pleasure in the aesthetic "rewards" of artistically perfect slaughter and mayhem. She's been known t stare for hours at a particularly well-arranged corpse or startlingly striking pattern of blood-spatter ... and when her pack-mates have need of a torturer (which is scarily often), she exercises her tastes and talents with suitable skill and applomb ...

Yeah ... this one is a NASTY piece of work ... but she's really quite beautiful in her horrificness ... needless to say if I ever started playing Vampire again I'd DEFINITELY dust THIS ONE off ...
