FINALLY got round to some more Dune design work, although this one's been in development for a while, not least since he's one of the most important characters of the early novels. So here he is, Gurney Halleck, favourite retainer and man-at-arms of House Atrieides, a truly mighty veteran warrior who's seen more action than the rest of the House's forces combined. He's also a talented poet and musician, particularly renowned for playing his ubiquitous baliset (as seen slung over his shoulder, pretty much as always). Good ol' Gurney, as ready with a smile as he is with his knife.

This is something of a DOUBLE rarity for me, this one - not only does this piece depict a BIG guy (which in itself prompted me to put together a little tutorial ([link] ), but also an OLD guy ... which, as anyone who knows my work can tell you, doesn't usually pop up in my work. So I was enjoyably challenged getting this guy to look just right, and I think I pulled it off. I'll admit right now this is pretty heavily inspired by the "classic" David Lynch's Dune version of Gurney, as played by Patrick Stewart ... but then he did such a fantastic job with the character I really can't possibly think of anyone else when I'm reading it, so ...
