Model

This is a series of pictures taken of my Wife wearing a costume i designed, and made.

the costume is inspired heavily by the Sister of Battle, also known as the militant part of the Adepta Sororitas, and the right hand of the Inquisitorial Ordo Hereticus.

Based on the color scheme of the Order of Our Martyred Lady.

It took roughly 6 months of trial, error, pain and joy to make, several hours a day, usually after work.

Materials are mostly sheet styrene and PVC expanded hard foam, i emphasize, hard, there's really very little that's foam-like about the stuff.

Various reasons for doing this, the main being to see if i could and a good portfolio piece towards prospective employers.

Question about the construction of the lower leg armor- is it a solid piece, like a tube, or is it split down one of the sides? Is it just flexible enough to get away with that? Looking at other costumes, their leg armors are frequently really thick/wide(so I guess there's enough room to slip one's foot through) and I think it looks really bad.

I really love this whole piece!

the greave has just enough flex to open it and fit it over the leg.
if you look on google for 'jutte warrior greave' you will find a great tutorial with a pattern that is similar to the pattern i designed for my greave.
i just used plastic and a heatgun instead of metal and a hammer

Nope, it's Adepta.
i wasn't choosing to use the plural,
if you are referring to the order as a singular entity, which is a common usage, it's adepta, not adeptus which you misspelled anyway, its 'us' not 'as'

Thank you, the latin terminology had always prelexed me slightly. Some authors say "as" some say "us". I had assumed "as" was the feminine derivation.

grimdarkkommissar In reply to StephenFauster [2012-10-19 06:38:32 +0000 UTC]

'us' seems to be the canonical use, but gamesworkshop is kind of infamous for using a lot of 'bullshit' latin on their miniatures, some of the older mini's had some pretty weird stuff written on their banners or on the 'eavy metal official display models they use on boxes and in the books

This is an amazing piece of work. The Sisters of Battle is one of my favorite groups. Making Warhammer 40k cosplay is no easy task, but you pulled this one off beautifully. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

This is absolutely fantastic! Your attention to detail is incredible. I love the inquisitorial chain and the Adeptus Sororitas prayer book! I have been DMing Dark Heresy for two years now and last year we had a Sister of Battle in the inquisitorial cell. She's actually the one who sent this link to me. What did you make the bolt pistols out of? And do the purity seals actually have legible writing on them? If so, where did you draw inspiration from for the prayers?

grimdarkkommissar In reply to Asmodeus2k [2011-10-31 02:01:52 +0000 UTC]

thats awesome that some DH sister of battle players are using my work as 'inspiration' that makes me REALLY happy.

i have a tutorial for the bolt pistols,
bolter.blog.com

and the purity seals do have legible writing on them, a lot of them are prayers from the Imperial infantryman's uplifting primer.

my fave one i've made is a modified Starwars quote:
"Fear leads to Anger,
Anger leads to Hate,
Hate leads to Victory"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

grimdarkkommissar In reply to childofthehivemind [2011-10-28 15:16:22 +0000 UTC]

i made some of the pieces from paper before i attempted it, mostly to get an idea of how the initial pieces of plastic should look before i started bending them.
but essentially it was all initially from my mind.
