Description The warships of the Galactic Federation Navy of the Metroid game series, as seen in Metroid Prime 2 and 3. The Olympus, Hera, Griffin, Anhur, Aries and Stilleto were all drawn to the best of my ability based on blurry screenshots and videos, while both the Typhon and Brahma are original designs, meant to fill in the gaps in the warship classes.

The Hera-Class Cruiser is the ship class that was accompanying the Olympus and Griffins in the opening sequence of Prime 3. I'm pretty sure it was unnamed in the game, so I just guessed it was a cruiser and decided to give it the name Hera.

The Anhur is scaled up to a more appropriate size of about 150 meters, a (hopefully) more accurate scaling when taking into account the amount of materiel the Marines had on Aether. (Did Retro seriously think all those massive cargo bay doors, cranes, crates, computers, power cores, and communications equipment could fit into that tiny little ship in Prime 2?)

I think the idea was that most of the equipment was built on the planet using local resources and on-board fabrication capacity, or held in the digital storage the federation seems to use for basic equipment (like boxes and other simple items), much like how Samus stores the power suit when not in use.

That's one possibility, but I don't think that was Retro's intention. It's stated that parts of the ship have been cannibalized to build the Marines' base, and the sheer amount of equipment and structures on Aether compared to the size of the Tyr stretches the realm of believability, especially since the ship itself appears to be mostly intact save for one small hole in the hull. Also, there were more Marine corpses and Dark Troopers than there were seats in the ship, so unless the Marines were doing some on-site cloning as well that's one more piece of proof that Retro didn't think things through properly.

Well obviously, but still, it's a nice explanation, and the number of troops kinda does work out when you think that a dead dark trooper could be encountered more then once (I think).

Still, I realise they did just mess that up.

Hmm.... I think the Aries should be bigger because it seems to be an updated version of the Anhur-class maybe not as big but bigger than you made it....just my opinion though....

Not really, since some are fan designs and the rest are fairly inaccurate caricatures based off of blurry screenshots and videos.

Nice sig btw. I think you're the type of person who will absolutely love this video: [link]

Thanks for this. Any chance you can do pics of the Space Pirate ships? I know there are few, but I'm working on a fanfic and the pics can be helpful.

I'll probably do Pirate ships sooner or later, but right now I don't plan on working on it since I have several other works planned. Though I don't see how pics would be helpful in writing a fanfic, unless you plan on writing lots of details on the ships appearances, in which case a drawing by me wouldn't be any more useful than screenshots, seeing as how I improvised a lot when drawing this and the designs here are more than a little different than what you see in-game.

I think some of the dark trooper corpses are artificial and are Ing in that shape.

I think you're thinking of the X-parasites; the Ing can't shapeshift, they can only take over the bodies of other lifeforms.

WOW!!! I've always wanted to see pictures of GFS starships, but I have a hard time finding any. I'd love to see some rendered 3D meshes. That would be awesome!

You know what else I'd like to see? An official Nintendo game that has Starfox and Metroid rolled into one. (like that will ever happen ) Can you imagine it? The Galactic Federation and Cornerian Defense Forces working together?

**shot**

3D meshes of Metroid ships are something I want to see badly too, but what I really want is a Metroid mod for Homeworld 2

And I feel iffy about the concept of a Metroid/Starfox crossover game. If anything, it would be along the lines of a first contact scenario like advanced aliens coming to modern-day Earth and not them working together, considering that Lylat is only a single star system, while the Galactic Federation has more than a hundred thousand member systems and as such are way more advanced than the Lylatians.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pyre-Vulpimorph In reply to GuiMontag [2008-08-03 03:36:45 +0000 UTC]

Whether Federation tech is significantly more advanced that Lylatian tech is debatable; though you are correct that the story would have to revolve around a "first contact" scenario.

Can't a Metroid game at least passively reference the Lylat System? Like in a pirate datapad or something? Oh well, I'm really more of a Starfox fan than a Metroid fan, though the Prime games were awesome.

I'll shut up now, because the last thing I want to do is start a fan war....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GuiMontag In reply to Pyre-Vulpimorph [2008-08-04 00:07:05 +0000 UTC]

The simple fact that the Federation has thousands of systems under its control means it's more advanced than Lylat, since it must have super-fast FTL and communications, numbers and infrastructure to maintain their galactic civilization, whereas the Cornerians wouldn't be confined to a single system if they had similar tech. It's similar to the way the peoples of the Star Wars universe are more technologically advanced than the inhabitants of the Star Trek universe; because their civilization is on a much larger scale.

And yeah, it would be cool if the games were somehow connected, though I doubt Nintendo would do something like that.

You wouldn't have to improvise that much. You have the Pirate mother ship seen in zero mission, the pirate frigate, the giant destroyer gunships seen in MP3, the ATC, the boarding pod, and the fighters from zero mission and mp3. Alot of them are nameless so you would have to imagine something for them.

GuiMontag In reply to bakfromon [2008-06-20 23:10:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for reminding me about that cartoony-looking Barney the Dinosaur mothership from Zero Mission (That'll need a bit of an overhaul). I meant that we haven't seen whole lot in the way of large-scale warships for the pirates, but it should be fun to make new ones in addition to the ones already seen.

bakfromon [2008-06-18 05:55:59 +0000 UTC]

Great job, although I think you made the Anhur a little too big. I would've placed it around 100m instead of 150m, but who cares really. You should definitely do a size chart for the Pirate ships.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GuiMontag In reply to bakfromon [2008-06-18 18:32:30 +0000 UTC]

I doubt 50 meters would make much of a difference either way, though you may be right, since it seems to be just a light patrol ship. I had always envisioned it as analogous to the Sulaco from the movie Aliens, a nearly fully-automated starship meant to ferry around Marines, and increased its size accordingly to justify the amount Federation equipment on Aether.

And I probably will make one for Pirate ships as well, though I'll have to throw in even more original designs, since we only saw one capital ship and one fighter in Prime 3.

Artemsis [2008-06-18 03:34:22 +0000 UTC]

Great job on the scale and detail! I always enjoy seeing ships put side to side for reference. As for the Anhur-class, good idea making it larger then it appeared in game. Though, I had assumed that some parts of the ship had been canabalized (Scence they had been disabled by Aether's atmospheric conditions, if rigging whats left of your ship and usuing it to get picked rescued, who cares if it can still fly), along with perhaps some kind've portable nano-factory (Kinda like how Samus's ship and missle stations can build missles without resupply).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GuiMontag In reply to Artemsis [2008-06-18 18:21:02 +0000 UTC]

I also know about the marines using parts of the Tyr for building their base, but the interior of the ship is still too small to hold all that stuff. Those two cargo bay doors, for example, were about as high as the ceiling of the ship, and there were way too many crates to fit in the Tyr (and I doubt that giant crane-lifted crate could have even fit through the Tyr's boarding ramp). The most obvious proof of Retro's laziness in design the Anhur, however, is the number of Marine corpses/Dark Troopers is greater than the number of seats in the ship.

Heh, good points on the crane, crates and corpses vs. the actual ship.
